Several things:

1) The early 80s were not Porsches' best years. They made some serious dogs back then. Hopefully, you're not looking at a 924 or 914.

2) If it is indeed an '81, the car is already 27 years old. Porsches are not cheap to maintain or repair, and parts are not inexpensive, either.

I'll keep it plain and simple. Quality was not too good for Porsche's back then. The main reason would be that you will spend more on repairs than the car is actually worth.

a lot of cars were bad in the 80's

don't buy a car older than 1998.

you'll get better safety features and more miles out of them.
