They love to state the obvious.  It makes them feel a little bit better about themselves, since they really have very low self-esteem.  That's the only reason I can see to just put other people/things down, with no good reason whatsoever.  Just try to ignore them.  I should really take my own advice, and try to ignore them more, also.
