  1. because back when most roads were originally made it was expensive and difficult to tear down half a mountain just to make a nice straight,wide road.

    most mountains are in rural areas and don`t get much traffic, so it isn`t cost effective either.


  2. well it could be to slow you down so u dont speed crash and die. it could also be coz not many ppl use them and no one wants to pay money to build better roads. it could be that a road going straight over the top would be too steep. but if u ask me i think its just to p**s ppl off and make them car sick!

  3. It is less expensive to cut through a small portion of a mountain than it is to remove the entire thing plus it looks better and the winding is because it is better to wind around than go straight up and down.

  4. Narrow - so you take more care

    Winding - Slows you down

    It's like that to make driving on hills safer.
