Why say yes to Sri lanka and no to Pakistan?

[[The Australians have been the worst offenders, twice declining to play in Sri Lanka and last autumn refusing to go to Pakistan. The latter withdrawal was defensible but the others were craven capitulations.

A single bomb was once enough to send the South Africans scurrying away from Sri Lanka. Subsequently, senior South Africans wanted to cancel a tour after a bomb went off in an empty warehouse in Karachi.]]

>>I'm not saying Sri Lanka is not safe, because i've been there recently and it's really safe and there's a lot of tourists. But for people who haven't been there, why do you say yes to going to Sri Lanka and no to Pakistan, when virtually they seem to have the same history of teams refusing to tour there?

  1. The LTTE situation is limited only for a small part of the country.

There haven't been any major chaos at colombo in the recent weeks.

  2. all countries are just racist to pakistan....this is not the first time, countries have declined to tour Pakistan before as well, when the law and order situation was normal. Countries like India have no problem touring, but then why AUSTRALIA and other ones?

ANSWER: they are just cowards and value themselves above others, regardless of potential security services//~

  3. Well the media has a big affect to this. In Australia, all we here is about suicide bombers, the taliban, the war on terror etc but we never hear about the LTTE situation. So we get a picture in our mind that the Taliban are the most dangerous and Pakistan is a dangerous country.

So to me the media is to blame!

Edit: I agree with you Mel. A bomb blast occured in Rajasthan and the players still played! They didn't complain or didn't really care about their safety then. This shows that all they really cared about was $$.

  4. please refer the answer of user , who has got 8 thumbs down, this user has a habit of speaking truth, isn't it right that Australia has been denying earlier to play cricket in Sri Lanka ! i agree with the coloumn of India's National Newspaper, btw, this must be TOI, the editor's and Mr. Powers frequency matches so much, Mr. Powers said this thing yesterday what the editor has said today.

if a person can get 8 thumbs down for not offending anyone, what do you expect people to answer!

Edit: Dear Mel, i know , you are one of the most modest and understanding sri lankan user here, i respect your realistic approach and unbiased attitude, thanks but all i want to say Pakistan streets also will be inundated with soldiers around these Aussies and Pommes, when they come to Pakistan, thats all , so i don't see any threat!

    god bless!

    best regards!

  5. well my neighbors are tamils and they also saying sri lanka is quiet safe...they just have to stay away from certain parts of the country...

i would like to see the tournament held outside the sub continent or cancelled...

  6. Hi all; I reckon the country who will not participate or the players, they will be the losers as no one remembers who did not participate in Russian Olympics or Athens. If today it is Pakistan then tomorrow India then Sirilanka, Bangladesh... then England. ICC is very right in their decision as changing a venue will start a new tradition as players and countries will always wish to play in an environment suitable to them. As most the players in Aussie, NZ, SA and England are touching toy light of their careers so it is difficult for them to play in India or similar places. You can see the performance of Ponting and all seasoned players in IPL, whereas, Shane Watson of Australia and Suhail Tanveer of Pakistan were the best players. Before being dropped by Australian team few retiring players forward similar reservations about playing in England due to bomb blasts in London. Strangely Indian and Pakistan fought two wars and they are enemies but cricketers from both the countries feel safe and love to visit one another countries as they know that not a single sportsman is hurt ever by any group. India supported all way out to Pakistan.

On the other side it will be a great success of terrorist who will prove a point that we are coward and they have won! They have shrunk the world for us. Soon we will be confined to few countries... or rather English Speaking countries.

I request to all Cricket lovers to please help Cricket thrive and discourage these terrorists who have no country, no religion and no love for anything.

If it is moved from Pakistan then tomorrow from Sirilanka who is facing similar problems and then India. Who can guarantee that our countries are safe for life.

    Best of luck, Sara

  7. It all hinges on the political climate at any given time.Things change & we look at what's happening in whatever the country in question at the time of touring. Our government is strongly advising tourists of any kind to stay out of Pakistan just now & several of our consulates have been forced to close. So what makes you think we would send our players to a place like that? Nobody here has anything against Pakistan, but while terrorism reigns there, we are happy to not make targets of ourselves. Why are people so anxious that we do? It just seems common sense to me, that anyone who doesn't need to be there, shouldn't be.

Edit: BTW, I read in Today's Daily Telegraph, that NZ players have indicated they aren't at all happy with security promises/arrangements & look like staying home. Already their pre series warm up matches have been dropped.

Sarah Johnson, that is 'twilight' of their careers, & I'll  thank you to  check the ages of our players. Most of them haven't as yet reached thirty! And i'd rather be a live loser than a dead winner. But then, human life is more important to me then money or cricket.

    Edit

Melanie,I didn't exactly hear of multiple bombings & death when IPL was going on. And IPL is an individuals choice, representing your country is another matter. If the individual wants to take the risk that's up to him, but our cricket committee has to take responsibility for the team. An entirely different matter my dear!

  8. sri lanka is lot more safer
