  1. It's a common misconseption that the school/principall closes the school but that is entirely wrong. It's actually the bus drivers themselfs because if they cannot get through the entire route or is very suspicious that weather will get worse overnight or during the day they get to cancel school. Also, some places there are worse roads than where the school or where you live is.

  2. Generally tends to be something wrong with the school buildings or grounds health and safety wise.

    Eg,

    - If the toilets all stop working, they have to send the kids home.

    - If the heaters all go off, they have to send the kids home.

    - If there aren't enough members of staff who have bothered to turn up, they have to send the kids home.

  3. it might be too cold for the buses to start....i remember one time a couple years ago we got off of school because a couple hundred of our school buses wouldnt start, because they were to lazy to plug them in the night before.

  4. In most places, the superintendent of the school district or department determines whether there will be school. It is NOT up to the bus drivers.

Sometimes the superintendent will make the decision to cancel classes the night before, based on the weather forecast. And sometimes the weather forecast doesn't turn out to be accurate, so you end up with no school but a fine morning.

And sometimes the superintendent is looking at a forecast for the end of the school day. If the weather is supposed to be bad then, it's better to just cancel school for the day.

  5. Probably in case there is more snow nobody wants to get stranded.

  6. ask them

  7. sidewalks are not clear for kids who walks to school or else the school districts did not want to be responsible to clear the parking lots and their driveways in the early in the morning.  plus the teachers have kids too

plus up here in new york it depends on the temperture

  8. well by me all the roads are frozen. they close them because its not a safety issue to get there. with the buses they cant get through, and if you drive there, then its a danger too. even if you walk. it all depends how the roads are by your school and if its bad enough to close or not.

  9. Because the principal was lazy and decided to say they were icy, because he didn't want to get his fat *** out of bed.

  10. Because of Mother Nature, no one can predict what the weather will do and in some case it is better just to close the schools and protect the children as well as the parents and teachers.

  11. future weather problems occurring while kids are in school they dont want to be responsible for kids being stuck
