it is generally felt that no severe punishment should be awarded for road accidents, in view the condition of the roads. wonderfully, if we impose severe punishement, majority of our drivers will land in prisons. what do you say about this ?

  1. Ultimately, you make the decision to get behind the wheel despite the road conditions.  If you're not willing to accept the responsibility for whatever happens as a result of that, don't get behind the wheel.  It's as simple as that.

  2. Almost all laws are for bad judgment.  You choose to rob a bank, you go to jail.  You choose to beat your wife, you go to jail.  You choose to drive to fast for the road conditions and endanger your life and the lives of others, you go to jail.

  3. The majority of our drivers would have to be involved in accidents for this question to start making sense.

  4. Drivers are expected to drive differently in many situations, including bad road conditions, from breaking pavement to potholes to wet asphalt to ice. It's the driver's responsibility to react to the road. Roads don't cause accidents, or all drivers traveling those roads would have accidents. Drivers not reacting properly to road conditions are responsible for their accidents in nearly all instances.

  5. good point. in pa. the lane paint is so bad most people do not even know where the lanes are.

  6. Surely it depends on many factors:

    1) The severity of the accident.

    2) Was it due to the drivers negligence?

    3) What were the weather conditions?

    4) Was the road in good or bad condition.

    5) What was the other driver or person doing?

Also when you say "if we impose severe punishement, majority of our drivers will land in prisons" this is totally untrue.  Majority means 75% or more in my book, so are you saying that 75% of people or more have severe accidents that is their fault, i.e. someone is killed by 75% of people.  If this was true the majority of developed countries would have been almost completely wiped out by now.

  7. you take a life - you give your life to a jail. simple as that.

if people cannot understand logic like that - they do not deserve to drive on the roads, regardless of what condition they are in.
