Why ships from other countries brought to alang port for breaking?

  1. Ships are brought so that they be broken and from that either a new ship can be made or if material is not then it can be used for other commercial purposes.

Alang, India has an abundant supply of cheap labor and refrains from enforcing environmental standards.  Almost all ships have large quantities of asbestos.  Dealing with asbestos in an environmentally safe way is very expensive.  Apparently the authorities there don't enforce the regulations.  Could be the reason so many of the local workers are being diagnosed with the beginning stages of asbestosis.  Ship breaking is very dangerous work and they have a high injury rate there with no real medical facilities.  Guess they don't have our version of OSHA.
