Why should I Keep answering questions here ?

I just don't understand people I come here to try and help people with their horse(s) and pass on the knowledge I have about horse history and their are some answers that took me up to an hour to research or information that I already have in my head to type up and they give thumbs down and I wonder why I should keep answering Questions here

A little bit ago a young lady asked about how to get burrs out of her horses tail and I told her to get WD-40 and spray it on the tail WD-40 is the best detangler you can find and buy it any where for $2 and you don't have to wait until the next day for the Feed store to open.(2 thumbs down)

Someone asked yesterday about the difference between Paint and a Pinto. I explained to her about the 100% Appaloosa (Indian Pony) was the first true Pinto and that there wasn’t anymore around and what the PtHA rules were that I had remembered. (2 thumbs down)

I guess I should have explained to her that the Appaloosa that are around today are not the Appaloosa of 100 years ago and where between 13 and 13.2 hands tall and that the U.S. Calvary were under orders that any Indian pony mare that was captured was to be bred with any stallion that had to breed out the qualities of the Indian pony and the stallions where killed, because they where just such a good horse and the Calvary ponies could not keep up with them because unlike what the movies portray the U.S. Calvary did not ride Quarter Horses. When the American Indian went on the reservation their Appaloosas where killed by the thousands and what we have today is what is left over from the cross breeding. The Pinto Association was basicly started to honor them.

I don't know maybe its just me I think people should ask Questions or try something before putting thumbs down on people that know what they are talking about just because they don't under stand it

  1. Ignore the thumbs downs.  Lots of time there are "trolls" who go around giving thumbs down to upset people.  And then there are a lot of inexperienced people who dislike something if it sounds different.

The thumbs used to get to me too...now I just ignore them.  They don't mean anything.  If people REALLY disagreed with what you said, they'd have the stones to post a reply to that effect, countering your point.  They just don't have enough brains or experience to so that usually.

  2. frankly, I thought the WD-40 idea was great, and I can't wait to try it. As a fellow horse enthusiast, I truly appreciate the fact that you continue to try to educate others about this wonderful world of horses. I hope you continue to post, and I look forward to your response to any question I have in the future!

    Thanks again!

  3. I know how you feel..it is frustrating after taking these questions seriously and offering straight forward educated answers, and then seeing those thumbs down...I wanna finger up them!!  Sorry...

But, now that I have been here awhile..you sometimes have to read into these questions because some are so out there..people writing fantasies, playing make pretend, intentionally posting nonsense questions...I feel sorry for the ones that don't look beyond some of the questions and are so "into" helping troll questions.

I too liked the WD/40 idea....that was a new one one me..I appreciate learning and picking up new things....

So, just close your right eye and only look on the left side of the thumbs!!!

Don't let it get you down..."they" like that!!

  4. Welcome to Y/A!

Consider it to be an initiation. It comes with the territory.

We have had problems with this situation as long as I have been here. Keep in mind when you answer a post, many will read it and it will hit home with some. The knowledge you share here will help those who need it. Don't let the Trolls get to you.

Everyone gets thumbs down, just Cowboy up!

  5. you dont have to answer questions here sweety. but im sure most ppl find it very informative the information that you give . you can't help the those poor ppl who have nothing better to do then judge others and feel better for doing it. you'll find them everywhere.

  6. I understand completely....I have gotten lots of those but I keep answering to help these poor poor people on there stupidity of horses. So keep answering and don't worry bout the thumbs down people are ingnorante.

I'm gonna post it in like two secs. but it's gonna be, "Mare with head too low?" so ya! Thanks! and I get what you mean! Keep workin at it!

  9. some people just do that stuff to be a doosh i think u r providing good quality info and eing helpful so i suport u either way but i htink u should stay

  10. Keep your chin up!

Thumbs down used to up set me too, then I figured out that's what people wanted to do was irritate me. Now I think it's fun to check and see how many thumbs down I have and laugh at them. Really.

The better the answer and the more thumbs down the funnier it is, and the more amusing it becomes!

  11. I understand! Some people suspended my last yahoo answers account and I did nothing!

  12. With all the fine detangling products for horse mane and tail, and most especially the Cowboy Magic detangler, why on earth would someone be foolish enough to use WD-40 to remove burrs? WD-40 is a staple in my machine shed and I have dozens of uses for it, not the least of which is using it as a starting fluid for my old diesel tractor when I run out of ether starting fluid, but I would not dare use it on my horses. First of all, the stuff is explosively flammable. And second, have you ever bothered to read the warning on WD-40? Among those warnings you will find things like it being an irritant to skin and eyes and that inhaling the vapor or mist can be fatal. As for burrs tangled in horses tail or mane, nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, makes the burrs turn loose like Cowboy Magic detangler. And it works d**n well on wool sweaters too. I get burrs and prickly thistle in my clothing all the time and they just release and pick right off after rubbing in a little Cowboy Magic. Maybe you are just not as smart as you think you are and that is why you are getting so many thumbs down!

  13. Come on now, this is just a stupid online forum. You have to realize that there are many kids and teens on here that are just jealous of people who actually know what they are talking about. Thumbs down is given to everyone at some point in their answering carreer :D I think of it this way, the more thumbs down=the more popular you are.

these trolls just dont back down

In reality the trolls probably weigh 1000 pounds, are unemployed, and probably live with their parents in an underground bridge.

Please stay on here cause we need more knowledgable people. Ignore the rest.

  14. Good to know you may have spent an hour looking up stuff.

I've been 'looking up' Appaloosas and Spanish Horses for more than fifty years.

As member and representative of the American Appaloosa Association, Inc. and member of the ApHC more than 40 years, I have credibility in those circles, i.e. I know what I'm talking about.

    EXCERPT from PtHA rules

"The PtHA does not accept any horses with Appaloosa, draft or mule breeding and/or characteristics or known breeding within the previous four generations."  http://www.pinto.org/registration.html

    From History statement:

"The Pinto Horse Association started from a grassroots movement to systematically breed the horses for good color and conformation. Several horsemen in the 1930s formed the Pinto Horse Society with the purpose of breeding superior colored horses. The registry they created is the basis of what is now known as The Pinto Horse Association of America, Inc."

It is of little consequence to me if you stay or go.  What matters is truth and accuracy.  Yes, there is obvious trash put up as answers and it's recognized for what it is.

Anyone who has read my posts regarding Appaloosas (whether they prefer or decry the Breed) knows I've done my research, no half truths or hearsay.

I am aware of pinto/Appaloosa crosses, since before 1877 to the present, I have stated that.   Do not continue the fantasy that somehow to save/honor the Appaloosa, the PINTO registry was established.  This is an insult to the intelligence of any horseman/horsewoman worthy of possesing a horse.

The only part of your answer that contains fact is the part about the slaughter of APPALOOSAS for their part in humiliating the 3 U.S. Armies pursuing the Nimiipo. Nez Perce to you.  Since the grudge was toward the Nimiipo and their breed of choice(Appaloosas), it was when they were subjugated, not the insinuation that all Native peoples had Appaloosas in any number to be slaughtered.

The slaughter of their beloved horses was heartbreaking (adding insult to injury) to Joseph's band.

Nez Perce (Nay per ce) French, meaning pierced nose, for the custom of that choice of personal decoration.

The army did not have QH 131 years ago. (correct) They used whatever could be had.  It was the idea of the missionaries to breed Indian horses to plow horses in order to make warriors into farmers.

    I stand by my statement.

    Prove your case.

  15. First of all, I figured out what best answer really meant a long time ago...I don't answer here to get that.  Second of all, thumbs down have nothing or less to do with whether or not you have given the actual best answer either.  So, you probably come here out of the hope that one person will be touched by something you impart, and it will somehow make a difference somewhere.  And that is why it matters.  I keep coming back, and I can't figure out why I need this punishment either.  But I do it anyway.  My advice to you is to quit looking at the thumbs, don't think about best answer, and impart what you know because it's what you enjoy doing.

Edit...here is a good example of thumbs.  I have to agree with what putts e thinks...I haven't researched it, but she apparently has.  Now, I got 3 thumbs up for what maybe is a stupid answer.  I gave her the first thumb up she had for her answer.  So maybe your answer was not so great.  That's how it works here....somehow we read each other's stuff, then research it and find out what is smart or what isn't.  And if your answer is not smart, you get to learn that.  we all benefit.  And if putts e is a male and not a female, sorry. (I just assume everyone on here is female unless they state otherwise).......and one more thing.  If I did find out that something I advised was, in fact, dangerous or harmful, I would be sure to get that out there asap....and apologize for my mistake.

Hmmmm.I did some research....not looking good for the WD 40....maybe the thumbs down were a good thing.Maybe your next post should be a retraction instead of being so worried about thumbs and best answers...I know I would respect you for that.

I so do respect you for your edit.

  16. Well John W, I have seen a few of your answers and believe me they are intelligent and well thought out.  Very informative and it would be a shame to lose such an excellent resource because of a few dopes in this world.

I recently posted a question and notice that the last person to answer had put a thumbs down on all the other answers.  The thumbs down were not there before this person answered.  Some people are just plain idiots.

thanks for the tip on the WD-40, things like this are great so please don't give up.

Granted people see things differently and people have answered questions that I don't agree with but I don't give a thumbs down unless it is a plainly stupid answer or just a malicious answer from someone with no respect for other's opinions.

Keep the answers coming John W. thank you.

  17. I understand where your coming from;)

Sounds like you are very knowledgeable about horses and its a shame that people have given you thumbs down when their asking the question in which you have a proper answer for.

Unfortunately, this is the internet- if you met those people in person and told them that advice, I'm almost positive that they would give it a try or at least appreciate the advice. However, the internet changes things and everyone mst seem superior with their comments and try to seem right- like expressing their opinions on something as dumb as using a crop with horses and they start comparing it to a shot gun (yes, I actually read an answer like that today...).

Just keep doing what your doing, its not just the people who ask the question that reads those answers- your bound to help someone out with those right answers=) (thumbs up for you!)

  18. well, people here dont want to hear the truth, the truth hurts, they think their way is the only right way (a very christian and american thing to think, so who can blame them, it's what our culture teaches).

dont let the thumbs down bother you, it's how i judge how good my answer was, the more thumbs down the better i did.
