  1. i would not get a gerbil. i would recomened a guinea pig if you want something that will run around a little bit and sit on your lab and take naps with you or a hamster if you just want a little ball of energy. but gerbils are not very nice and they bite and when they do they usually draw blood. also they go HORRIBLY with other animals.

  2. 1. they don't bite, esp. females

    2. they aren't grumpy when you wake them, like some hamsters

    3.they love to be held

    4. they aren't nocturnal

    5. they have so much personality

i personally perfer gerbils over hamsters or mice. they dont bite as much, if at all, and although there may not be as many to chose from, you'll be glad.

  3. i dont reccomend gerbils because they smell and are not the friendliest animals ever. i would reccomend a rat( just dont think about the tail!) , a bunny, a chichilla, or a ferret. those are very sweet and smart animals.

  4. The main advantage I can think of to having a gerbil is that they don't pee very much and the smell is minimal.  You also don't have to interact with them a lot.

Besides that fact, though, I can't think of many good reasons to pick gerbils instead of rats.  Like gerbils, rats don't typically bite and you can keep them in same-s*x groups to watch them play  Rats will also want to play with you, though, whereas gerbils won't.

Whether you want a gerbil or not depends on how much you really want to play with this pet.  If you just want to watch it, get gerbils.  If you want to play with it, train it, etc. get rats.  Either way you should get two animals of the same s*x so they have playmates when you're not home.  Both are very social species.

  5. You should get a gerbil because they are great companions and because they don't smell if you get the right litter, they can make art with their teeth, they will take food out from between your fingers if you offer it to them, they are quiet, and they live up to 3 years and rarely need to go to a vet.

  6. - Gerbils tend not to bite unless they're frightened.

    - They're active and entertaining.

    - They're awake throughout the day and night.

    - They're desert animals, which means they produce less urine. Less urine = less smell.

    - They're social, so they should live with a same s*x companion.

    - They're, generally, easy to handle.

    - They don't mind when you wake them up.

    - They love digging, so they can make great tunnels which are fun to see.

Gerbils are NOT cuddly, and they don't, normally, enjoy being held for long periods of time. They're very curious, and would much rather run around than be held. However, this does not mean you can never hold them.

Please keep in mind that gerbils are social, and should be kept in same s*x pairs.

I, myself, have two gerbils, and I love them to pieces. They're great pets for the right people. Just keep doing research and figure out if they're the pets you're looking for. Good luck!
