Why should I get a lawyer?

Okay I have a Rule Nisi hearing coming up in 2 weeks because an ex-boyfried I have only seen twice in 4 years was able to get a restraining order on me. We already went through the hearing but I motioned for dismissal a few weeks later hence the Rule Nisi.

Anyway people keep saying get a lawyer. Why? I I'd rather spend that money on a cruise or someone useful or fun for myself. I don't have kids or assets with this guy so why do people say have a lawyer?

  1. I'd say cause its an added protection for you.. so that later down the road you can go on this so called cruise your talking about..

and he's got a restraining order against you?? strange!

  2. A restraining order can last a life time if your ex "renews" it.  It does NOT matter if you move to another town, city, state, or country.

So, if you do not want this restraining order, then obtain an attorney.  If you do not care about the restraining order, then do not retain an attorney.

However, when I do background checks on people, I see that they have a restraining order against them!  I am NOT saying that this will happen to you, BUT if the person/business does a certain background check, they WILL see it!  Something to consider!

  3. No need really.  If you don't want to win, you don't need a lawyer.

  4. They assume that you want to prevail and that a lawyer could increase your chances of doing that.

  5. Why fight the restraining order? Just go to court and tell the judge that you have no interest in having contact with this lunatic (be more diplomatic when you say this) in the first place and then go on your cruise.

A restraining order is nothing but a piece of paper that tell you that you can't contact him. Why would you in the first place?

Just tell the judge that you VOLUNTARILY will restrain yourself from contacting this guy, and if he needs a piece of paper prohibiting you from doing so, that's no skin off your back - is it????
