Question:

Why should I get an imac and not a pc?

My dad doesn't even use computers. He never even touches them. Yet he doesn't believe that an imac would be much better than the hp pavilion a6567c-b he is considering to buy. I said its much harder to get viruses so we wouldn't have to get it repaired as much but he said that it will still break just as easily. Can anyone help me find articles showing why the imac is a good choice over the pc?

NOTE: I don't use games for the computer since why use that when I could use an XBOX360, PS3, or Wii. I use the computer for homework, photo editing, internet (ex. youtube), and adding music to my ipod. The hp computer is around $1200 after the $100 rebate. I saw a imac for that price but he still doesn't want it.

  1. you  shouldnt pcs are 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999... times better and less than half of the price i would say buy a dell vostro 1510 with vista ultimate or xp pro

  2. My friend bought a Mac because she had 3 PCs in the past and they all broke.

  3. really depends what you plan on doing

if your gaming and want better compatibility i say pc

if your into movies editing high end work get the mac

  4. first off the 'mac's don't get virus's is a lie.

second stop listening to media and the overpaid marketing teams from Apple.

third the PC has better software selection, variety, and quality than Mac.

fourth, upgrades are practically impossible with a Mac.

last if you want a Mac to fit in with the crowd at the coffee shop get a laptop and you can sit around and congratulate each other on your purchases.

  5. It sounds to me like you have made you recommendation clear. I would simply leave it at that and allow you dad you buy whatever he wants. A MAC might be a smarter choice for him, but it is his call.

  6. If you have the money and want to pay more for a Mac, knock yourself out.

If you get Vista on that HP, you are less prone to virus' and malware than you are on XP.

If you've bought in to the Anti-Vista hype, head to a big box store and test drive it yourself a little.  It isn't that bad and like anything new, it takes some time to get used to.

As for the Virus stuff on Windows... if you are writing a Virus, why target a a small percentage of the computers?   If Windows is the most popular, you target that.  If Linux or Mac (which IS open to attacks) had the largest market share, the virus junkies would be attacking them just as hard as they attack Windows.

  7. Imac's are more complex and very very rarely have virus's. If you want a new computer mostlikely it will be vista and vista stinks. Has to many glitches. Belive me if you switch to mac you will now be dissapointed.

  8. I've had both for the past 10 years

They both break, have glitches just the same

Yes it's true it's easier for pc to get viruses than macs

From my experience macs lasted longest, 1 mac vs the 4x I had to get my pc restored

  9. I have a Mac book... if that's what you are speaking of.

They are so much more simple. Everything seems to work together, drag and drop, one click. It's just a better buy. Well worth your money!

  10. imacs are impervious to viruses, browser hijaciking, and malware.

  11. dont buy a mac!

  12. Do you have to ask?  LOL really, the mac is better built, doesn't have as many viruses (yet anyway unless they get too popular), it is better for artistic stuff like photo editing, but if you can do all you want on a pc and save money they you should get a pc, get the computer that DOES WHAT YOU NEED for the best price, not becuase of the cool colors or what ever (yes I am a girl)

  13. mac is wak worst company ever ,buy a PC with windows vista its way stronger in visual effects then a imac anyday

  14. Macs run less software, use proprietary hardware that make them more expensive to fix, has a growing list of viruses affecting them, and are overpriced in comparrison to a PC.

    So, listen to your dad.

  15. If your Dad knows nothing about computers then you're right - getting Windows is not a good move... unless he wants to get down and dirty with defragging, viruses, spyware, adware, trojans, rootkits and registry corruption. Ask him what any of these things are, because he'll need to know. Perhaps he wants to lose his data, or pay lots of money / waste lots of time getting Windows reinstalled every 6 months. Or, he could get an iMac - easier and more secure :)

See the links below for just how great Windows is.

Oh, and check Yahoo! answers - you'll see about every 10th question is "Help! My windows has a virus and everything is gone!". You don't see that for OS X or Linux :)

Still, its his choice - he may like the challenge!
