I live and work in counties that all allow unconcealed carry, loaded and concealed car carry and home/property carry. I prefer going visibly holstered as added deterent. What would be the advantage of the cc permit?

  1. its better to get one in case u do need it, just as a precaution.

  2. I live in the west and our open carry laws are excellent but I have a CCP only carry concealed.

The reason that most people carry is for defense. Beyond when I'm hunting and carry heavy for bear and wolfs the only other thing I need to protect myself from is some of the lower forms of humans. Even when I hunting and carrying open I have a concealed 32 auto as a back up.

Just because an individual is criminal does not necessarily mean they are stupid. If they see you are armed and they want to rob you or do you or your family harm they will devise a plan to eliminate your ability to use your firearm. The most popular plan is to walk up with their weapon concealed and disarm you or just shoot you outright.

It's always nice to have a surprise for scum bags that want to harm you or your family.

  3. your lucky to live in such a nice area, there really isn't a good reason to go concealed if you can avoid it. here in NY if your lucky enough to get a pistol permit, it must be concealed.

  4. If concealed carry permits are offered in your State consider getting it.  Open carry is not always socially acceptable.

  5. From your description it sounds like you live in a somewhat rural area. Really as long as people dont freak out when they see someone with a gun, it seems unconcealed is the way to go. I live in the down-town area of a semi-major metropolitian city where it is legal to carry an unconcealed weapon. Nobody does though because of fear of people's reaction. I have experimented with this myself, I tucked my 9mm pistol into the waistband of my pants while I went arround my neighborhood, ran errands on my bike, stopped for a bite to eat ect. Now, I got a few stares when I did this, but no one ever said anything. I do get the feeling though that if I did this often, eventually someone would call the police on me. so I got my ccw. so the only reason i can see for you to get one, is if you travel to a large city in your state where people might be a bit more alarmed by the site of someone with a gun. Anyone can get the Utah CCW permit, and it is valid in 33 states so far, all you need to do is a take a local 4 hour ccw class, and mail a few things to the ccw office in Salt Lake. Everything can be done by mail, for a total cost of 110$ and you can travel to most places for four years with your gun concealed.

  6. NO advantages at all.* Where is this located in what State. What do you do that permits you to do this?*

  7. The biggest advantage of the CWP is there is no waiting period when you purchase a new handgun. Secondly, open carry makes you a target police and criminals both will notice you and give you unwanted attention.

  8. you know I have nothing to say about this other than you are Lucky where you live I live in Crapachussetts where they have crapped on every one of our gun rights and the crime is rising more than ever.

I definitly like the idea of having exposed carry

however if a criminal decides to take you by surprise and he knows you have it there goes defending yourself however. If he doesn't know you could say you are gonna give him your wallet and then you can defend your self.

BTW Send the NRA Airborne Division to help us here in Massachusetts they are legislating us out of the right to defend ourselves.

  9. There are a few good reasons to have one.

If you travel to another state that will recognize your permit you can carry concealed there as well.

Often other people are intimidated by the sight of someone using open carry.  Carrying concealed doesn't do this.

It does make it easier/quicker to purchase a new gun.

Law enforcement personnel normally consider those that have gone through getting a permit as normally law abiding people.  It helps to not be thought as a low life if trouble comes your way.

These are just some of my thoughts on this subject.

  10. Things may be about to change. If you can qualify for concealed carry, maybe you should get it established right away, before 2009.

  11. One big advantage of having a CC permit here is that when you go to buy a new rifle or handgun, the dealer doesn't  have to call it in to the Feds. You just fill out the paperwork, and take the new gun home, because you have already had an extensive background check for the permit.

Ask your dealer if this is the case in your area.
