My computer speakers (Klipsch ProMedia 2.1) have removable grille cloths.

Is there any benefit to removing them? Why or why not?

Thanks in advance!

  1. theyre there to protect the speakers since most indoor speakers are fragile. if you like the look then feel free to take em off as long as your careful around them

  2. There is no good reason for removing them... but some people seem to think it's cool to see the speakers.

  3. I dunno, did they not come with an instruction manuel as too why you should remove them? and for what reason?

  4. you do not want to remove them except for the occasional cleaning

  5. Its all a preference thing.

Some people like a brighter speaker so removing the grille will lift the upper end. Most people can not tell a difference with that speaker, but it is there for those who can.

Try it on a bigger higher end speaker and you may hear a difference.

  6. It really doesn't matter.  The grills are acoustically transparent.  They do however, provide protection to the driver cones of the speakers if u foresee  any problems that way.

  7. Virtually all speakers with grills allow their removal for service/maintenance but you shouldn't do it. It's like driving around with no hood. There is absolutely no benefit whatsoever unless you attach a small mirror to the woofers cone and aim a laser beam at it. It will reflect a cool Lissajous pattern. This works best with Pink Floyd or Santana and some acid. This will certify you as a geek.
