Question:

Why should I spend my time as au-pair in Australia?

I'm from Germany and want to spend a few months as au-pair in an English-speaking country, but I don't know, if I should spend the time in Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the USA. Now I'm very interested in your opinions: Would you recommend to come to your country, Australia, and WHY? What do you love about Australia, and what do you not like?

Thank you!

  1. Probably the weather is a main factor!  Also the expanse of everything - all the space.  If you have the time to travel around a bit I think you would be surprised.  (If you haven't done your research then I will tell you that 3 countries in Europe can fit into the space of Queensland alone!)  I have relatives from Germany who just love Australia.  And we all love germans!

I haven't been to Great Britain but I have been to NZ, Canada and the US.

I really didn't like the US - the places I went were dirty and the people were horrible.  The only good thing I saw was Disneyland!  But America is not friendly at all.

I loved Canada and would suggest that your choice be between here and Australia.  The people are lovely and the views amazing - but the weather is not so good.

NZ is lovely and sort of a mixture between Canada and Australia.  If you had less time then this may be the better option as you would get to see more... it is just tiny!

  2. I'm not Australian, but I would go there, anytime! People are the best, easy going, party, good life, great outdoors. We in Europe don't have the equivalent.

  3. Australia has good and bad like any other place... But it is peaceful and the weather is often good. GB is cold and a bit dark, NZ is beautiful but dull, Canada is cold but depending where can be fun like Australia. I like Australia because it is laid back and quite friendly. I don't like Australia because some places are a bit backwards. Overall it depends also on you and your attitude and what you have to give... Like travelling anywhere. Depends on what you expect too...
