  1. Most Americans won't see the irony between the menu and the topic of conversation.

and yes to the first answerer Beans on toast let them see what the rest of us have to eat.

Its a bit much having that menu and discussing world food shortages and hunger..

  2. Because if you don't you'll be getting screwd and not even know about it.

  3. you asked a good question, but then produce a menu of food that heads of state and dipolmats ate . why?

i might sound like a snob, but what do you want them to eat? beans on toast?

cam? dear god, i'm surrounded by peasents. have you never been to a banquet or a real dinner party? food is like the entertainment or show and should have standards

    idiots

  4. Mmmmh, delicious. Do you wanna know what we Tories had?

    Here goes:

Champagne Reception - 2 glasses of Champeloupe Creman de Loire Brut 2005

    1. Smoked salmon decorated with lemon wedge and feresh dill with brown bread and butter

    Wine Vega del Castillo, Blanco

    2. Armenian Lamb, Casserole of Hampshire farmed lamb cooked with mild spices, tiny new potatoes cooked with mint tossed in butter and chopped parsley, extra fine green beans, Wine Vega del Castillo, Tempranillo, Rojo

    3. Profiteroles filled with chantilly cream accompanied with warm dark chocolate sauce and cafetiere of freshly brewed coffee

  5. The menu had to cater for a very diverse and world wide taste buds.  I think it was a grand banquet  but not over the TOP.

  6. "Man is a political animal"

    Socrates of Athens

In our democracies, all the politicians must first be elected by the people.  We may not like who gets elected, but that's democracy for you.

An Athenian once said, "The people get the government they deserve".  This happens when the people become dispondent and apathetic [nice Greek word].  So, in order to avoid having the government we deserve, we must instead have the government we choose and that means signing up as an elector [joining the electoral roll].

As for the politicians at the G8, I don't suppose any of them had very much if anything to do with choice of menu.  Quite frankly, I think the meal lacks something - where are the Fries?  Sweet potato mush just is not a substitute.

One item at least on the menu reminds me of my boyhood in Sussex - conger - the kids used to try catching conger eels off Hastings pier - massive monsters, but worth the effort.

Here in London it's jellied eels - same thing really, but without the poncy name.

  7. Those who choose NOT to participate have no ground for complaining.

  8. Mainly because your tax dollars go to them...and you have a responsibility called a vote to effect the course of what is done with your hard earned dollars.(And maybe you can vote in the first top ramen and a pepsi candidate.) The old adage about absolute power corrupting absolutely is never going to be proven wrong, but really... they do what they do because too many of us don't take them seriously...
