Why should I worry about my littering habits?

pollution  - littering huh , the problem is what you do to your surrounding effects you and all those around you .  the air the water the ground you live on     and the food thats grown  !   the real problem is people don't care!  what they never asked is how much did i breathe,how much did i eat, how much did i drink in my lifetime ? so why worry   or will i die from cancer , that i got from who knows where,

You should worry because it is unhealthy for the environment if you litter. Littering causes global warming which is the reason for the ice melting and the polar bears going extinct. Even if one person litters, it affects the whole world.

It depends what it is you are littering with.

Putting litter into landfill does not reduce global warming. Instead, when we put biodegradable materials in landfill it decomposes as methane whereas it would have oxidized to CO2 if spread out on the surface.

Clearly we do not want to leave recyclable materials anywhere but in recycling. We do not want to leave objects that would cause harm on the surface. Even a plastic bag left on the road can cause a car to overheat when sucked into the radiator.

But if we are discussing an apple core, or a banana peel, it will do the most good if discarded on the surface of a garden where it will feed the garden. Driving down a road, no harm if you toss out a peach pit on the road side, but do not toss out packaging or cans and bottles.  and do not toss that peach pit where people walk. Don't leave your car muffler on the roadside, but it is ok to drop it off at a garage that recycles mufflers.

What I am saying is use some intelligence about what should and what should not be jettisoned, and where.

because YOU, yes YOU should be "the STEWARD" of this planet. and there's nothing you can do because it's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY its your OBLIGATION to take care of the planet you don't even own. and you should worry becasue if not YOUR CHILDREN will worry. its UNFAIR for them to worry about the STUPIDITY of their parents.
