Question:

Why should US taxpayer money go towards rebuilding Georgia?

I read that the USA will help Georgia with humanitarian, infrastructure, and military.

The humanitarian part i understand, but why should a cent of my tax money go to rebuilding there country and on top of that there military?

Then again this is consistent with the US government. Ironically they can tell Russia to leave a country that attacked them, but have no problem occupying Iraq a country that never attacked us.

  1. None of my tax money should go to the country of Georgia for anything more than basic humanitarian aid.

  2. russia red tape

  3. To deter Russia from stripping US`s influence of Europe,Of course.Remember that Georgia was a alternative to Russia`s monopoly of supplying natural gas to the EU.If US loses Georgia, then the Russia can use their energy supplying status as leverage against the EU which would serverely damage overall US international policies.

  4. I asked the same thing after South Central burned.

Not that it matters, but Russia is the aggressor, in this case.

  5. Humanitarian aid should goto the people of Georgia. Then, we should make Russia pay to rebuild Georgia.

  6. I would rather my tax money go there than have it spent supporting some crack heads here in the US.

  7. My opinion is that the USA should keep well out of the Russian-Georgian conflict. Europe has a history and many countries there have relations with each other that stretch back hundreds of years before the USA was even formed and even before the land was discovered. Russians and the region where Georgia is located have had poor relations since the middle ages. Let them deal with it themselves. Georgia rightly belongs to Russia and Russia has the power to take her...Again.

  8. Why does Georgia need help?

Were they hit by a hurricane recently?

I'm sure Florida could send up some aid.

  9. Remember that they are allies of ours in Iraq and have been helpful in the broader war on terror.  Plus, they want to join NATO.

If a tornado destroyed your friend's house, would you help him with some food and shelter?  Would you help him rebuild his house?
