Essentially, some animal rights organizations are attempting to get legislation passed that gives animals the same right to freedom that we have.
I can see treating animals more humanely than abusing them for entertainment, but this is really going too far. Does this mean that they will be issued social security numbers? If so, will they be able/required to earn taxable income? Will they pay fines when they are found guilty in a court of law of vandalizing a persons property? Will a person be persecuted for killing and consuming an animal because their survival depended upon it?
I know those sub-questions sound ludicrous, but I was within earshot of another persons radio while Michael Smerconish's show was playing previously aired interviews and these ideas came to mind.
This isn't meant as flame bait, but I really don't get how anyone can take animal rights to such an extreme. Worship and adoration aside, we didn't attain our status as the most dominant species on this planet by allowing animals the benefit of the rights that humans have had - for better or worse - in recorded history.
If me and a dog were stranded on a deserted island, and we were also the only remaining sources of nutrition, I'd put money on me living another day. But don't go thinking that I'm some sport hunter or someone that abused animals. I have had pets, and have helped several animals in times of their distress. However, there is a line that I draw that separates human rights from ever being available for animals no matter what they feel, or able to communicate.
Your thoughts and comments about something I'm missing. Thanks.
