Why should arriving late to work due to traffic count against a persons hours worked?

People usually aren't penalized for bathroom or smoke breaks. ;)

Bosses are funny like that. If a person is late consistently, then maybe that person's sub-conscience is trying to tell them something about what they feel about the job.

Either find a more funner job, or set the alarm clock ahead by the amount of how late they are now (and also hit the hay that much earlier at night as well).

It works for me.

I once tried to use that excuse and all they (management) would say is "figure out a way to be here on time EVERY day"

If you have to leave home 3 hours early to do it, DO IT!

Your only other option is to work somewhere else.

would you pay someone who isnt there?stay later to make up the time or leave earlier.if you get a paid lunch break ,are you alowed to bake a lassagnia

You should plan on delays and maybe leave a little earlier.  Depends on how important your job is to you.
