  1. Arteries have a muscular nature because of the pressure the heart exerts on them pumping blood and the arteries also contract to continue to push the blood to the various places.

Veins, on the other hand have a series of valves that move the blood like different boating channels.

  2. arteries are known to be more elastic and generally "tougher" then veins because the arteries carry the oxygenated blood being pumped from the heart throughout the body. These arteries need to be tough because the heart pumps the blood with a high pressure. Hence in action movies all the spurting blood..its cause its arterial.

  3. arteries are more "tough" than veins because when the heart pumps blood, the blood is pumped directly into arteries at a very high pressure. the arteries need to be able to withstand high amounts for pressure. blood returns to the heart via veins at a much lower pressure so they are more flimsy.
