  1. Cuba has always been in a feudalistic rural situation. With one or two agricultural cash crops and the vast amount of property held by master land lords. This and the strong Spanish-Catholic heritage make it like most Latin countries easy for a dictator to rule.

Even through Castro controls, the people allow him because of the heritage and the lack of new immigration that with new people bring in new idea’s and change.

The United States could in fact end the communist power in Cuba just like we did in the cold war in Europe without ever firing a shot. How you may ask? Simple, it is actually a Top Secret Military Plan that was worked out right after the start of the Berlin Airlift.

I learned of it in my college days at ROTC and to this day I apply parts of it to control my surroundings and win.

Here it is, Code Name B.B.B.F.F.

That’s Beer Brats Babes Freely Found. (O.K. I cleaned it up)

The point being that we won the cold war my might and also by letting them see us having fun and letting them be a part of it.  Just think of how many times during the cold war you saw people welcomed to the west after escaping the iron curtain. Now did you ever think why? You could say political freedom being able to choose and a bunch of other political hack ideals but you would be off mark.

The real reason why we won was because we offered even at the height of the cold war to assist and help the people of each nation’s behind the iron curtain something to make their life (the citizens life) a little easier. Be that a hot meal, a cold drink, a pretty girl in a commercial to take their mind off the production floor.  We gave the music, black market goods that kept them warm, grain to feed their bellies and at times technology to improve their crops. They saw us come into their country near the end not as those “Evil Yankees” but as tourists seeing there homeland and wanting to learn more.  Our troops on the borders met their troops with a smile and even though not on record there was numerous “Battlefield trades” that sent a bit of freedom in the way of a candy bar, a pack of smokes or other things. Our embassies leaked out bits of our free market style and our hope for a new day, always giving never asking in return but a smile and you’re welcome.

This is how we won the Cold War, by the ability to let our powers of good will speak for themselves backed by a strong military that was ready to fight if needed.

We will always be able to beat Castro is a battle, but in this war we are losing. The reason why is because your ideals like the Previous administrations’ since Kennedy are not capitalistic based (are they even conservative?) in their battle plan.

Now here is how to win the hearts and minds of the Cuban people.

First combine the drop the trade embargo with the request that we have at least three “Free Trade Development Area’s” throughout Cuba. Have the President announce that we will slowly remove the trade embargos if these areas prove that we will benefit by free trade with Cuba and not the other way around (giving them a sense that they are helping us and not the other way, a Latin pride concept).  (Beer)

Second use the Wal-Mart approach. Low prices better deals everything in one box and the chance to work there and become a manager.  I don’t know how you feel about Wal-Mart (I can’t stand shopping there because it is always busy) But it does reflect a sense that if you need it will be there, no questions asked. That is how we need to run the free trade zones. Bring in Wal-Mart, Home Depot, MacDonald’s.  (Brats)

Third is what comes with running any new business in a foreign land the support people.  Any dictatorship, communist leader, or cultist hates having new people with new ideas being around their youth.  How do you kill the communist dream? Let the kids hear music not sanctioned by the government. How do you change the way they see their food rations? Have the wife borrow a cup of sugar from the foreign co worker who just asks for a bite of the leftovers in return.  Freedom of speech?  Once kept open my Radio Free America is now ruled by the Wi Fi that is available to all via cheap computers and I pods given away as thank you gifts by the new outside companies.  (Babes)

Finally the two F’s (Freedom to Find) No bias, no condensation to simple ideals. Let the find out what they want to find out in their own time. Don’t force democracy on them, if they choose to stay in a feudalistic lifestyle so be it. Elections are the playground of powerbrokers in a young country.  Let them choose who will vote and how they will choose their leaders by voting. Doing this in a hands off approach you will forge a stronger government that is a true republic, one that its leadership is in step with freedom and not a political group.

Let the tourists in to find where the MAINE sunk, see the old Chevy’s and help fix them, ask where  the Confederates re supplied during the U.S. Civil War. All these items let citizens’ from both nations see that they have a common ground in the past that still lingers today.

The end of the present Cuba will be a soft, quiet, sigh. The Cuban people will see us as not the “Conquering Yankee” but as an old friend that has been gone too long, for a reason that is lost over a barbecue dinner with rum drinks and the sounds of a 57 Chevy chasing a US made Hyundai down a gravel road.

  2. Because I want to go there to visit and see what it's like for myself instead of relying on stories I've heard all these years.  Hundreds flee the country while others say they like it there and wouldn't consider leaving so I'd like to check it out.
