  1. Global warming is affecting all areas of life - - - globally. What other organization should consider it "their" problem. The national governments have the most power to police it.

Those industries that have a vested interest in oil are not going to police it. They are going to say it's a hoax and try to get restrictions removed.

  2. because the government control just about everything in our country

  3. because global warming effects the country drasticly,by making droughts ,floods, hurricanes ect. so if it can hurt the country its a government problem.

  4. Beleive it or not, global warming ( or global cliimactic change) is a National Security issue.

If we loose major ports - there is a huge impact on our ability

to import things we need and export things we want to sell.

If there is a major change  ( or even a minor change) in places like Kansas (where most of the wheat comes from)

or in California, where a huge proportion of our fruits and vegetables come from - we have trouble feeding our own people.    that means importing more food - which will be in greater demand,  hence at higher prices.

there are small island nations in the Pacific where it is clearer how this is a national security issue.   an island, not very much above sea level, can first shrink, and then cease to exist altogether. if there is global climactic change.

  5. Because government scientists created (invented) the problem.

  6. Impossible!

  7. Because the government has been the key force behind eradicating the pirates!

  8. I'm sorry. This is quite possibly the dumbest question I have ever witnessed.

  9. It's not. It is not a problem at all, except we should adapt to the natural variability in our climate.

Governments are interested because they can tax people and gain power.

  10. I am hoping that a cold decade, and anger over high energy costs will result in investigations of how the government and envirofanatics conspired to impoverish the country.

  11. It is only partially a government problem--but the government has a role to play on two counts.

First of all, the government sets national energy policy in many areas that are beyond the scope of individual businesses.  For example, its their responsibility to  balance the needs of conflicting interests.  An early example of this was the choice faced by people of how to use rivers--build a hydroelectric dam or keep a river open for navigation?  Somebody has to make such decisions or broker a compromise.  Today it might be to evaluate the relative safety of nuclear power versus the health risks of coal power plant pollution.

The second thing the government should do (and under current energy policy is not doing) is exercise oversight in the markets.  You've seen the result--the oil industry has a virtual monopoly and is using that to guge consumers while blocking competitors from entering the market.

There is a myth that's popular that "the government should stay out o fthe markets."  That might be true--IF everyone were honest.  They aren't.  You need cops in the business world jsut as you need cops on a city street--to prevent crooks from victimizing people.  No cops--and you get mugged--or pay $4.00 ffor gas. Same difference.
