Why should government encourage ecotourism ?

We are well over the tipping point in many areas of consumption of natural resources.  Pretending otherwise is fatal to the human surviving on the planet let alone any country.

It helps to preserve wilderness areas and animals that would otherwise be destroyed by giving the locals an incentive to preserve them instead of wanting to eliminate them in the name of progress.
