Well, first they should have residency.. then they can apply for citizenship. I think that by being illegal they can get away with more, but if they have a valid identification, drivers licenses, social security # they will be held responsible for their actions and contribute to paying taxes.

Legalizing and citizenship are 2 different subjects. To legalize the people here is basically getting them on paper so we know who, what, where these people are. Sounds smart right?

To grant citizenship to the illegal immigrants right away? No not going to happen. There has to be some consequences for the violation of laws. Eventually if they prove their worth it could happen.

They shouldn't. I don't understand why the word ILLEGAL is so easily overlook. It should not be a problem. If everyone decided to speed should it all of the sudden be legal. If everyone wanted to steal should we just let them. There are people following the rules and they are being cheated by the people who want to push to the front of the lines and jump the fence. If you don't come to the United States through legal channels you don't deserve citizenship.

If walking over the boarder into the United States and being granted all the privileges of being a citizen becomes the rule of law then what is to stop Osama from coming over here with his cronies. There would be no need for a fence leaving our boarder unsecured, even more so than it is now.

Something illegal is illegal. There is no question in my mind if someone should be allowed to citizenship by cheating.

I have a simple problem for our immigration problem.

1. Build the freakin border fence. Money has already been set aside for it.

2. Require everyone to get a national id card. when you apply for the card you must prove citizenship. Require all employers to verify their workers have the card. Make it to where you cant get any goverment help for anything including health care without the card. Give everyone six months to get it after that anyone caught without will be deported back to there home country. Not just mexicans all criminals who entered our country illegally.

3. any employer caught employing illegals will face very stiff fines.

If we did that many would just go back and try to pursue legal avenues. It would solve a lot of problems at once. Dont get me wrong I am all for immigration. But sneaking into this country is not immigration it is invasion. One of the largest problems with our healthcare system is they have to treat illegals knowing they will never get their money. Well at least not getting it from the person they treated. They will just relay that cost on to paying consumers.

They shouldn't. Remove the incentives to come here and they will self deport at no cost. The people who say it costs too much?:

1) If your child was raped and murdered would you want the police to tell you that looking for the person who did it costs too much?

2) Is this what we teach our kids now? If it costs too much do the cheap thing even if it's wrong.

4) How much will it cost us if we do make them legal? At present it cost $17,000 for every tax dollar they contribute. It will not go away.

They shouldn't be given a trophy for their vagrant ways. If you grant them amnesty, you would be inviting more potential illegal-immigrants to come in the US, because if the person before them gets "rewarded" for being here illegally, then the next person would think that it would be fine and dandy for them as well.

Tell me why we Americans ( natural born & naturalized) should bend the rules for illegals?

Its a fact of life that in order to survive, you must do whatever it takes to stay afloat, but it shouldn't be on our expense. Because it cost's more to track them down, house them, feed them, prosecute, and deport them and we loose that part of the labor force.  It's cheaper to forgive the illgegal entry than to chase them down and as long as they're not dangerous what does it hurt to put them at the end of the legal entry line.

Illegal immigrants will keep coming here.  Deportation and increased security won't stop them, at best it will slow them down.  So what to do with these people?  Keep them in the shadows, or bring them out?  I say bring them out, this will encourage them to assimilate with American culture.  It will get them legally paying taxes, on the books like any normal citizen.  It's a problem when you pull one over, and they don't have valid driver's license or ID.

I realize giving them citizenship rewards bad behavior, but from a cost perspective, it is the cheaper solution.  Keep in mind in most cases the bad behavior is related to their low living standards; they just want to improve them.

They shouldnt, they broke American law by crossing our border, they evade taxes, take away American jobs, and pull money out of our economy to send to their actual homes outside our borders. Its legal immigrants and citizens in this country that bear the burden of free riders, while we pay for their kids to attend public schools, health care costs, and the list goes on.
