Why should old people get a free bus pass?

Most of them are retired and pensions don't provide much income. Neither does social security.

And trust me, you don't want my 85 year old grandmother behind the wheel of a car. I would much rather she take public transportation to ensure the safety of everyone else on the road.

simply they are old and not working.retired,sick or on invalidity benefits over 60 or disabled.

We never had them as students and as students we gave up our seats to those older than us. Youngsters nowadays only want to sit with their feet on the seats.

Because for nearly all older people, the only way to get about is by bus. And after paying my taxes and NI for 51 years, I feel I am entitled to this. Do you realise how little pension money is for senior Citizens now? state pension for a single person is about £90 per week. Could you live on that and pay gas, water, electric, food , telephone and TV licence and other basic needs. I live in Wales and get free prescriptions as well. I think we deserve it. I think there is an element of jealousy in your question.

Because most pensions aren't great so they are on a tight budget as it is

So free travel encourages them to go out and be active

Because they're likely to have less access to transportation.  About the "bus" part of the question, perhaps they've been driving a car for years but now their eyesight and reaction time have been diminishing.  About the "free" part of the question, some might not have had the financial means to fund their later years but are now physically unable to continue working a regular, full-time job, so they'll need financial assistance.  Whether that's the case or not, a senior will likely not be able to afford to hire a driver to take them everywhere.
