Question:

Why should one vote in an election?

I want to avoid the "Patriotic" ideal and ask it from a "human" standpoint...

I mean, the candidates may agree with you in some ways, disagree with you in others; but no matter what decision they make, the winner is inevitably going to make someone in the country feel like they've been cheated and like their leader is incompetent. Voters create winners, winners create losers, losers harbor hatred for the winners, its pretty much endless... With so much at stake (our livelihood, the ecoenvironment, the future of our children, etc), why should I risk taking that from someone else in the name of "Taking money from those greedy oil moguls," or "making sure my child never has the chance to abort her own?" Seriously - things like that are a big deal - to someone else... and my voting will effect their lives, because I have a few things that make me feel - uncomfortable?

Why would anyone willingly immerse themselves in this process?

  1. Well, because despite the fact that the cycle will never end it is still the voters who make the difference. People should immerse themselves in the process to show that the voters (i.e. the people of this country) still have control and a say in what happens in the country they live in. A lot of people don't see the effect the voters have but we do chose the people who do make the difference. There are many different ways to answer you question... but in short you better figure out who you are voting for cause you are voting and you better make a well informed decision!

  2. That's life. If no one ever voted, what would we do. We would have to just take turns running the country and thats what Cuba and some other places have done. When one brother is done, another takes over.  In voting, we hope to get better each time or as good as the last. Please, vote, go for it.

  3. i personally believe that if you don't vote, you have no right to complain about the person who is running the country, nor the moral/financial/etc. state that the country is in. you certainly didn't do anything to stop it. but hey if you're not going to complain about the president or the country, go right ahead and don't vote. doesn't bother me.

  4. You have the right not to vote. I personally vote because I want to express my opinion on the candidates. By voting I do not take anything away from anyone. I am merely expressing my preference for a particular leader. Winners and losers are not created by voters or candidates. They have and will always be here. It is the nature of humanity. There is no such thing as a purely equal society where there is no need for leaders. The founders of the US believed that we must continually "form a more perfect union." We accomplish this by staying informed and voting for the candidates that seek the public good.

  5. It's called self defense.
