Why should parents get tax breaks?

They are using more of our resources, energy, more of our public facilities and accommodations. Majority of people on welfare and medicaid are families as well. If anything they should be paying MORE taxes.

  1. I think you answered your own question in that only MORE people would be tapping into government programs to make ends meet if they didn't have a tax break to ease the cost of raising children... a more sensible disagreement would be that the government needs to better regulate who and how long people can tap into these resources, not just welfare, but SS also... make people accountable for the money they are receiving... not making it harder for people to raise productive members of society just because you don't share their views.

ALSO, I would like to mention that if something were to ever happen to you, like a car accident or such, and you became severely disabled (not that I wish it upon anyone)... who do you think will be picking up the tab for your inability to "have enough dough to last you"... the tax payers, whom wouldn't be in your exact situation.

  2. That's kind of funny, i plan on being a quardrillionare when i retire too! Actualy that is a really simplistic way to look at why social security is going bankrupt

I would more focus on the fact that medicine and science have improved to the point that they are prolonging people's lives well beyond the point that they can contribute anymore to society and people are collecting SS for 30 years instead of 5 years, Also, the fact that some many of those baby boomers opted to NOT have kids is the reason there are not enough workers paying into the system

Of coarse then you are trading evil for evil, IE Overpopulation for a floundering SS

  3. To buy votes, just like welfare and poor people get tax refunds even when they have not paid any Federal income tax.

  4. They are raising the next generation, obviously you don't have kids. Otherwise you'd know how expensive that is

  5. I don't benefit from tax write offs for business expenses, how about for charitable donations. I personally don't benefit lets do away with those to huh? There are many tax write offs and rebates, they don't necessarily apply to everyone.

  6. I've always thought that people should start out with 3 exemptions and each child born should eliminate an exemption.

I really don't appreciate my tax dollars subsidizing others hobby of child rearing.

The reason tax breaks are offered for children is to encourage those inclined , to produce new crops of taxpayers.

  7. Parents may appear to get more tax breaks, but they are raising the next generation that will help to look after you in old age.

You say you have oodles of money?

Yes, perhaps, but when you are old & grey, who will fight for your country?  Who will pay taxes to help build roads that you drive on?  Who will wipe away your incontinence and give you your meds and bring your meals on wheels?

Sure, a society does pay for children, but children grow up and pay for not only the next generation but also be there for your generation too.

  8. Because their children will be paying our way through life when we get older.

  9. I think parents deserve tax breaks because they have to spend more money in other places and all those places usually tax them anyways.  Imagine if you had a child on your current salary and current taxes being removed from your check; could you afford to do what is right by that child?   I can understand how you feel; right now I have no kids and every year I great screwed on taxes and see others s******g the system in worse ways then a child deduction.  Just remember this people get a tax break because they have created new revenue for the government.  The kids will grow up and pay taxes and create new taxable kids.

  10. Yes, well, we wouldn't want to spend money on anything that doesn't directly benefit us, do we?  Because, of course, the big ME is really the only thing that matters.  I, for one, really don't understand why we have to pave roads other than the ones I drive on.  And you know what?  I've never once used the fire department.  What a waste of my money.  So yes, this nonsensical notion that we should place some value on children is beyond me.  What do I care about the future of humankind?  As long as I have enough for ME, that's what matters.

  11. Because thats the way it is. HAHAHAHA

  12. What a short-sighted question.

So children are nothing but useless consumers of resources, is that what you're implying?  What about being the workers of tomorrow?

    Silly neo-Malthusian...

  13. Because they are raising the taxpayers and the employees of the future.

Since the human race hasn't made a mass suicide pact, raising productive, intelligent educated children is in everyone's best interest. Who do you think is going to pay for the social services that will support you when you are old?

  14. You are kidding right?  People get tax breaks on expenses and kids ar ean expense thats why!  sure taxes go to schools , etc and social programs, but not all families, not even most are on any social programs.  Besides children requires lots of clothes for their growing bodies, food, toys, etc.  Parents spend so much money into the economy because of their children and without families this economy would be a big crappot.

I am glad you never want children because you sound very selfish, immature and stuck up and frankly I wouldn't want you to be my mother or any poor little child's mother.  Keep your opinion about not having children, but don't look down on those that do and respect the fact that they get the tax breaks because they contribute more to society by having children than you do not having children and that is why they get tax breaks and you dont

  15. Because it is an incentive to have more children. The more children you have, the more tax breaks you get.

Compare this to several Asians countries that are over-populated. There is a tax break for the first one or two children, and then parents are PENALIZED for each child after that. It is an incentive for them NOT to have too many children.

The U.S. wants to keep it's population up, since many Western couples opt to have only one or two children. The tax break is incentive for them to have more.

  16. I'm sorry, but as much as I don't want children of my own, I think people who have them do deserve a break; raising a child in America today is more expensive than it's ever been. However, I do think people should have more say over how their taxes are being spent. Social Security and the like are going bankrupt because George has wars to buy.

  17. I think you really do make some pretty valid points.

While perhaps it's good to make sure we're all taking care of our future, whether we have kids or not, it does sort of seem like there's plenty out there that some parents are good at taking advantage of.  Actually, that's true for some adults in general. . . kids or no kids.

You live in a world where most people grow up eager to become parents some day.  Unless that changes, you're going to keep supporting other people's kids -- the majority tends to make the decisions, and you also don't want to put parents in a situation where they feel like they're needing to defend their kids.  You aren't going to be able to win an argument with them.  That it actually costs a heck of a lot more per person for basic housing, utilities, etc. and other quasi-necessities if you're single or a childless couple is irrelevant.

Eh, that's life.  Nobody ever said that life was fair.  I've just decided to deal with that unless I suddenly decide I really want kids and move on.

  18. I think it's funny that you're saying that you're funding "their" schools and hospitals.

I'm sure you never reaped the benefits of one of those schools.. and if you ever get into a car wreck of get the flu, make sure they don't take you to one of "their" hospitals.

I'm not a fan of our current tax plan, so I'm not really going to comment on whether they should get tax breaks, because I don't like how any of it is set up currently.

  19. I bet yo mamma got tax breaks when she had you, am I right?

Why shouldn't parents get tax breaks for their children? It is horribly expensive to raise children. How much of a tax break do they REALLY get anyway? In Canada, parents get GST rebates and a bit of a break, but it's still not nearly enough to be a huge deal - big enough for someone to complain about it anyway.

Who do you expect will be taking care of you when you're elderly? Who do you think will be bagging your groceries or giving you an eye exam in the future? Who will be changing your bed pans when you're incapable of doing it yourself when you're old...

    The next generation.

If you're so upset, pop some babies out. Get some tax breaks of your own. In the meantime, stop hatin'.

" By the time I retire I will have enough dough to last me a life time."

    ...sure buddy.
