  1. Parents with a deaf child should consider giving their child cochlear implant. The deaf child would have more opportunities in life with a cochlear implant. A cochlear implant does not take a child out of deaf culture. Someone with a cochlear implant can have the best of both worlds, hearing and deaf.

  2. Obviously if presented with the chance to have a cochlear implant for your child and improve their hearing any parent would say yes.

  3. With young children, it would give them more opportunities for socializing with others. For older children who have recently lost their hearing, it re-establishes a sense of "normalcy" in their lives. They would not require so many adaptive devices to be safe. (weather alerts, sirens when driving or walking, phones in an emergency, etc.) Parents and other family members may not adapt well to sign language or may be blind and may want/need their child to be able to hear.

  4. If a parent could prevent many of the negative issues surrounding deafness, wouldn't it be neglectful not to do so?
