  1. Many years experience with dogs.

    Train dogs.

    Have taken veterinary assistance courses.

Have a dog book collection a library would envy. Subjects include: Nutrition, training and behavior, many veterinary texts, and more.

I believe you are never done learning and much of my free time is spent reading new additions to my collection of books, or rereading old ones for something missed. Also researching on the internet and gaining real life experience.

    *******Well said Dot.

  2. personal experience, works.

  3. I've owned dogs my whole life and have never once attended a training class with any of them.My dogs have all been well mannered and behaved because I've researched breeds, training methods and behaviors. If I can't find the answer at the library I'm not too shy to call every trainer in the area. They've all been happy to talk to me about behavior modification. If their methods sound like something I won't feel comfortable using I keep on looking or modify what I've learned to suit myself and it's worked wonderfully.  But no one should trust my answers or anyone else's for that matter.

Every dog is as different as people are. What works for me might not for you and your dog. Every answer in my opinion should be considered carefully before applying to your dog since more harm than good can be the result evan if the answer comes from a top contributor or a professional.

I've seen many answers that in my opinion amount to abuse that came from so called professionals when I can plainly see by the question that all the poor dog needs is to be put on a daily exercise schedule or it's bored and needs some mental stimulation.

  4. hey you don't have to ask questions here if you don't trust us go to someone you do trust

  5. first of you are a top contributor why do people trust your answers are you a Veterinarian? Dog trainer? Any education? courses? Research? Person experience? plus these are not set in concrete anewers they are only suggestions so most people need to use common sense and not only how do you know if any body is a vet you can say what ever you want

  6. becuz i answer stuff i know

i if dont know ill answer u this

"i really dont know ... and im putting this up for points"

  7. First I don't answer questions if I don't have a reasonable answer or at least a suggestion for someone to try.  I would never recommend anything harmful and I won't recommend medication but instead give the person ideas and suggest that they talk about it with their vet.  I am not  vet and would never pretend to be an expert on medical issues.

I have owned dogs and cats for years, been through many dog training classes and have been on the board of a humane society for several years.  So I have some background in animal issues and lots of personal experiences.  But I don't claim to be an expert and I don't expect anyone here to be one either.

  8. People shouldn't trust my answers at all, even if I declared I was any of the above or I laid claims to any sort of experience.

This is an open forum and to become a member you do not have to show credentials.

What you should do though is, ask your Q, sift through the answers then do your own research.

Edit to answer the second part of your Q..I did answer the first part.

I am not anything other than a dog owner, had dogs all my life.

I have learnt heaps from YA sifting and researching and I have read a few books but I still say people should not trust my answers or anyone elses for reasons I have stated above.

  9. I've just had dogs (large and small breeds) and cats my whole life.  While I don't claim to know all about dogs, I just try to help where I can.  If I've been through a similar experience the questioner is asking, I'll try to tell them what I experienced in the hope it helps.

I agree with Dot and Bindi.  You should never stop in your willingness to keep learning.

  10. I took two years of the pre veterinary classes in Pullman WA.  Due to children and such I was not able to finish.  My husband and I have been training, breeding, and field trialing Labrador Retrievers since 1998.  Six years ago I took a part time job at a local grooming salon and have been grooming full time for 5 years now.  I am very lucky that my vet has decided to trust me with many small problems and trained me to do many things at home. (Minor wound treatment, inducing labor, tube feeding pups, even helping her at the hospital).

I can say by no means do I know it all, no one does.  But I can relate to problems that I have been through or seen.

  11. I'm 17 years old. Work for a vet. Own 3 dogs. Trust what you want to..

  14. well, i research a lot on the internet.... if that answers your question....

    hope i helped?
