Because everyone texts in lessons, which distracts them so they don't get as good grades. And the schools want good grades to make them look good.

i think it's unfair when you're not in a lesson and your phone gets confiscated. in year 10 i learnt just to say "f*** off, it's a personal emergency" or whatever. Thank god i don't have to put up with it anymore!

Personally I think it's a bit of a petty rule. Luckily some teachers think the same, but some of them are still powermad!

Students should be allowed to bring their phones for safety reasons.  But there is absolutely NO reason why they should be allowed to have their phones turned on during class time.  When you're in class, you need to be focusing on the lessons and doing your work.  Period.

I don know its really dumb. I think its because they think we will send answers to other kids.

Because students will text during class, and not stay focused to the lesson. Also, they could text the answers to tests to their friends.

Do you even know how annoying it is when you hear someone texting? Especially when that student is texting during moments when the teacher is saying something important or you are watching a movie. Seriously it's irritating and whether they are friends or just classmates I ask them to stop or to slow it down or something because it makes loud noises and we as students always wonder how the teacher doesn't hear it. I get that parents want their kids to have cellphones for the sake of safety but when the student forgets that it distracts and annoys others around them, it's ridiculous. At least that's how I see it.
