I'm doing a report on why snowboards should be banned, and I need some good statistical data or reason as to why some resorts have banned boards or why they should be banned.

  1. ITs very controversial question due to a high number of people snowboarding.

  2. snowboards shouldnt be banned. thats a stupid question... write your report on something else.

  3. If you are doing a serious report, I'd email or call some of the marketing/public relations people at Alta, Mad River Glen, and Deer Valley. Speak to those people about what arguments were raised in their decisions to not allow snowboarding at their resorts. I would also contact Taos to see why they finally allowed snowboards this year.

Those are the people who know best. It's their resorts you have questions about, so if I were you, I'd go straight to the source.

I know Mad River Glen's decision to not allow snowboards is based on a few reasons.

    1. Difficulty of loading on the Single Chair.

    2. Personal feelings of former owner Betsy Pratt, who did allow snowboarding for a short period of time back in the '90s. She changed her mind when she felt the riders were abusing the privileges of being allowed to just ride the other lifts.

    3. The Mad River Co-Op has decided to maintain the ban. This has a lot to do with personal reasons of the shareholders. I'm not going to get into specifics, as there are opinions among the shareholders on both sides of the issue. However...majority rules, and the majority of them decided to maintain the ban.

  4. I don't get it.  I think snowboards are great!
