Why should soccer be in the Olympics?

Soccer has its own World Cup and European Championship every year and therefore shouldn't be in the Olympics. It takes away airtime from the lessor known sports and shouldn't be in the Olympics.

Soccer is played world wide, if any sport deserve to be dropped its baseball!!

If Baseball is an Olympic sport, why cant we have Australian Rules Football aswell?

well there are many other gymnastic competitions other than the Olympics, same with skating, basketball etc.  Are you saying that if there are other competitions they shouldn't be part of the Olympics, because that pretty much eliminates most of the competitions.

I'm a big soccer fan and I agree.

The Olympics has way too many sports and way too many participants, it dilutes the excitement factor.

Tennis

Baseball

softball

volleyball

handball

table tennis

The same can be said for other sports.  Beach volleyball and indoor volleyball have their own world rankings, but its still in the olympics.  The NBA has its own league in the U.S which is watched around the world should we eliminate that too? The fact of the matter is soccer is a sport and therefore deserves to be in the olympics.  The olympics show which nation has the best athletes and team.  In the European championships for soccer players don't have to be from a designated nation and can be traded.  Therefore it is necessary for soccer to be in th olympics.  Also in the U.S soccer is the lesser known sport so it deserves some air time.  A better question would be why tv networks execs don't do more coverage of a larger variety of the olympic sports because most of what I've seen has been swimming and I've only seen soccer once.

Ok fisrt of all the olympics are supposed to be competitions for the whole world. So why would the best most watched most played most famous sport in the entire planeth earth be out of the olympics. Are u kidding me. What you wanna replace it for bowling or golf what's wrong with you. Really think for a minute in ur life soccer is not only reason the world unites and cry togheter celebrate togheter play togheter soccer is planet earths official sport. And that will never EVER change. It has even been proven that a soccer world cup has been more watched and anticipated than the olympics and look how manny sports are there in the olympics.
