Why should students study the new testament at a liberal arts school?

I think it all depends on the spin... It is ALWAYS beneficial to study the history of the various religions because culture is so intricately intertwined with religion.If you want to understand culture, you need to understand the religious underpinnings first. On the other hand, if religion is taught as a matter of fact, drop the subject altogether. The story of the New Testament is nothing more than a collection hyperbolized tales.
