Why should the tip be diffrent if I spend only 6 dollars on a salad or 25 on a steak?

  1. Because the tip is based on the size of the bill.

    For example, a 10% tip on a $6 salad would be 60 cents.

    A 10% tip on a $25 steak would be $2.50

    It's all based on the price of the food.  If you get extra special service, you should double the tip.

    If you get really lousy service, you shouldn't tip at all.


  2. Over all you should be tipping 17% or more on the total bill.

    Although I vary this depending on the type of establishment I happen to be dining in.

  4. I guess it is just tradition or a share the wealth kinda thing.  A $6 salad is no harder to bring to the table than a $25 steak. I can understand the difference between one $6 salad and four $6 salads.
