Why should the uk accommodate different religions??

Question

for example building mosques? if i were to go to Iraq there is no way they would build a christian or catholic church, it is bad enough that so many people are seeking asylum here but if they are here they should be made to live in accordance to our countries traditions and not bring their own with them. isn't it enough for them that they get so many benefits handed to them on a plate?? what do you think?

a r I agree with you.  I have no objection to our government taking in asylum seekers, if they fear they may be executed or imprisioned in their own country (now i,m not talking about ordinary every day crimes).  When they come to our country I believe that they should have to abide by our laws and traditions.  When we go abroad we respect other religions and abide by their laws and cultures.  The vast majority of Muslim countries do not allow Christianity to be open, all Christians have to carry out their services and worship behind closed doors or even in some countries underground.

The UK has a long tradition of tolerance and offering refuge to oppressed people from elsewhere in the world. We also have a tradition of allowing personal freedoms and this includes freedom of religion. There have been muslim communities in the UK for over 100 years. However, in recent years there does seem to have been increasing numbers of people who resent the influence of alien cultures on British society.

So what has gone wrong? I don't think it's Islam or immigration per se. The problem I think is the lack of a desire by so many immigrants to integrate and become assimilated into British society. It's the fact that ethnic ghettos exist that causes the problem, not that these people are a different religion or race to the majority.

So how is the problem dealt with? My opinion is that all immigrants, whether from Europe or other parts of the world, should learn English. They should also learn about British culture and allow themselves to be assimilated into it. Their children should be brought up as British and brought up to feel British. People should be discouraged from forming racial, national or cultural ghettos. Then their religion becomes a personal matter, which it always was in the past.

I want Britain to remain a tolerant society that welcomes immigrants. But immigrants must accept that there has to be give and take on both sides for acceptance to occur.

There are catholics and christians in Iraq as well as other religions.  They also have churches.

There aslo 2 types of Islam practiced in Iraq (that being most of the problem there).

I am not aware of the benefit statistics so I would be pleased if you could supply them. They would have to be set against the income of these refugees of course. Without the facts it is impossible for anyone to comment re benefits for refuugees. Regarding religion:do we really want to copy the actions of other countrys such as Iraq. Now that would really go against our customs, beliefs and laws

Define different?Are you saying only Christian religions be accommodated?You do know that there have been non-Christians in Britain for a number of generations now?Do you suggest that after all this time they should suddenly be denied their right as British citizens to worship in a proper place of worship?

i actually live in a foreign contry and moved from the Uk. I get all the benefits as the locals here and no one treats me like a foreigner or says i should follow there religions!

I think we should accommodate different religions, as we're not t*ssers like other countries who refuse to acknowledge Christians.

I mean by this including buildings, festivals, religious food etc.

But they shouldn't be allowed to claim benefits or break our laws. They shouldn't be able to dishonour our religions and stop us celebrating Xmas etc.

It's not actually Muslims etc that stop us celebrating Xmas - it's overweight, bored, ageing politicians who have nothing better to do than impose their politically correct opinions onto everyone else.

All this does is fuel hatred.  I enjoy other religious festivals and foods/clothes etc, and am quite interested in them. But as soon as Xmas becomes 'winter festival' and Easter is 'seasonal celebration' then I end up fuming and blaming the Muslims myself, even though it's not really their fault.

There will be a level of immigration where the traditions, and customs will be changed by the immigrants and England will be predominately Islamic.  

Since the general belief in evolution has taken place of a general belief in God, we are left with an atheistic society that will fall to another belief because we have left our creator..  

Just hang on and watch, the end results will be very interesting or maybe horrifying is a better word..

well i agree with you when you go to another country you have to show respect.

over here they dont show us any respect at all killing innocent people who are on there way to work, abusing the system to bleed our country dry when there are british children on the streets, trying to stop christmas because it offends them, building mosques wherever they feel like it, its all wrong.

I'm am not a racist at all but i think the the majority of immigrants let there countrymen down and its causing allot of hate.

i think we should get rid of religion that way we might live in peace. saying that i think mankind will always find away to hate and abuse there fellow man.

I'm not religious i don't follow any religion i just want to live my life in peace and help others if they need it and that's the way i think it should be and for the people who don't agree with that, who want to trash our country, kill innocent people and create war well there is only one thing you can do to those people in my opinion and i wont say it on here

Because we are a multi cultural society and have had different religions here from the time religion was invented.  For your information, many Arab states have churches as there are many Christian arabs - Jerusualem is divided into four quarters - Jewish, Muslim, Armenian and Christian.  Many countries have Anglican or Cof E churches so how can we moan about having the odd mosque?  There are very few Arab states who do not ban any religion but their own.

Also, to those who say 'when in our country do what we do'.  How many of you went to Muslim countries on holiday and drank alcohol, wear provocative clothing, sleep around?  how is that respecting their culture?  Spain, Italy and Malta are deeply christian countries so, if female, I hope you did not do any topless sunbathing or walk round the streets in bikinis/swimming costumes (totally out of order).  We brits do not accept other cultures when we are abroad.

I totally agree mate. If i were to wonder round down town Basra, i wouldn't last 2 seconds without my head being chopped off, even if i said i was muslim etc. Its not just religion they wont tolerate its anyone that's not exactly the same as them. Alot of people on here are narrow minded and probably never leave the comfort of there house. We the British are mugs for letting the country go down the pan.
