Why should there be no bubbles in the slide?

We have this experiment called "Preparing a Temporary WET Mount", and so what we did, we put a leaf in a glass slide and put some drops of water. Then cover it with a cover slip. Our teacher said, there should be no bubbles in the slide. WHY?

  1. Bubbles will change the refractive index of the medium and cause distortion of the image

    So you wont get a clear picture in the microscope

    It would be the same as having water spray on your sunglasses - you would get a blurred picture
