Why should we create a global environment coalition?

For Comm Arts class I have to write a persuasive article. I was wondering if anybody had any facts to back it up. Some of my ideas are:

1. more environment awareness

2. more pressure to be "green"

3. there will be more use/reasearch of alternate fuels

Those are my ideas and I think they are farily good ones, but I need facts, examples, and statistics to back it up.

Perhaps the most important reason of all is to make sure that countries coordinate their environmental regulations on issues that have global impact.

One good place to read about efforts at international environmental regulations of that type are the Kyoto Protocol on the control of greenhouse gases, and the other is the Montreal Protocol that phased out the use of ozone depleting chemicals. See the two links below.
