Question:

Why should we keep the constitution?

there are so many politicians that are willing to nullify parts of it for political expediancy

george bush with the patriot act

the entire democratic party with gun control and the fairness doctrine

and a large number of people would be willing to nullify its effects on other people for the sake or their own position

athiests wanting to outlaw christianity or other religions

why don't we just scrap it and start over

pretty soon this nation will be divided by a civil war anyway, is it time to start thiking about the next form of gov that we will have or dividing this nation up into peices and letting each group with their ideas have a portion of land to call their own?

I personally want to keep the constitution as it was written and find a way to heal this nation but I don't think it can be done

  1. the patriot act is nothing compared to the military commissions act that was passed last year.

  2. Keep the constitution, lose the congress.  That is where we should start from scratch.

  3. Atheists do not want to outlaw Christianity.  Atheists just want to be able to go through their lives without being forced to pray to Iahovah.

  4. Yes, we should keep it. What we need to scrap is Congress and change it to what it used to be. Thanks!

  5. The Constitution is the blueprint of the freedoms, AND responsibilities we enjoy. While it is your opinion that President Bush has nullified parts of the Constitution he has not. Not as far as I am concerned. When the Supreme Court rules otherwise I will put in with the premise you have stated. A better question might be "why do some politicians interpret the Constitution to suit their own agenda?"

  6. Ok.  First off there is currently no bill in the US house or Senate that is pending or being written that calls for a return of the fairness doctrine.  Republicans are trying to create panic by suggesting this lie.

Secondly, christians control every branch of government and they are in the majority.  The idea that athiests could or want to outlaw a religion is just stupid.

However the patriot act does really cut into the first and fourth amendments, and it's quite serious.

  7. Governments are like small children.  They constantly test their boundaries.  They will whittle away at the Constitution until it has no meaning left at all.  They forget the fact that their authority comes form that piece of parchment as well as our rights.  Inevitably they will either trespass enough to be slapped or settle down.  No telling which.
