Question:

Why should we stop cutting down trees?

Because we use the paper for things such as toilet paper. So if we cut down the trees we would have to use owls.

Save a tree, wipe your *** with an owl.

Save a tree, eat a beaver.

  1. The premise of your question is valid the comments are immature and have no real substance.   Having spent the early years of my life as a logger and doing the handcutting I have seen what good forestry management can accomplish and have seen what bad managment and poor policies accomplish.  There is a lot of misunderstanding about land management and how to harvest timber.  To many people bring their emotions into the equations rather then sound ideas and pragmatic policies.   Right now the forest where I live is doing quite well in the private sector better then the Federal and state.  Counties are doing a good job however the state and federal have allowed to much political pressure to cloud them and that is not sound or practical.

On the question of clear cutting, some area of forest are clear cut for a reason it all depends upon the species, or the stand.  So its not alway bad it just depends upon the need and the species being harvested.

Growing up in a logging family and community it is in our best interest to have a healthy forest that is properly sustained it is a win win situation.

  2. Because trees are one of the main groups of organisms that produce oxygen and provide a carbon dioxide sink, and also because cutting down unsustainable forests leads to large scale species extinction and the destruction of indigenous tribes.

  3. The trees that are most important to save are those in the tropical rain forests, which provide the habitat for the greatest number of species.

Unfortunately those are now being destroyed to plant palm trees that can be used to make fuel for cars. We should do everything we can to stop this.

  4. that destroys animals natural habitat

  5. Came here as it looked like a serious question and then I saw the bollocks that followed so there is no point answering really... oh, OK: Because then there would be no trees left.

  6. cutting down trees is bad becuase

trees provide oxygen (something we need to live)

they take away carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas)

    they hold back erosion

    it causes desertification

habitat loss is the number 1 cause of sepcies extinction

we can find better ways to clean ourselvs. hundredes of years ago the french invented the bidé (i think thats how its spelled) and now they look at our american practice and consider it to be unsanitary.

  7. Because deforestation is a bigger threat to the environment than global warming. You don't need to stop cutting down trees all together, you just need to allow trees some more time to recuperate after you take down huge amounts of trees. Don't buy into Al Gore's Carbon Forgiveness scam though, that's a load of c**p. He probably has more so called greenhouse emissions with his motorcade and private jet than the entire population of a town COMBINED.

  8. because they give us oxygen and help protect us from harmful chemicals and gases in the atmosphere.

  9. Its hard to grab owl.

can i use pigeons or feral cats.

cats will even clean themselves for reuse.  we could put a cat in a cage next to every toilet.

  10. We should not stop "cutting down trees."  Trees are a renewable resource and the planting, management and "wise use" should be encouraged over such activities as the use of petroleum and non-renewable resources to make plastics and such.  This doesn't mean quit making plastics and other things out of petroleum. Just encourage the use of renewable resources whenever possible. Reducing packaging waste, disposable products, and improving the quality of products (planned obsolescence is the worst idea in the history of the Earth) would help a lot.

The use of trees and growing them helps the environment in every way (cleans the soil, water and air; makes nutrients more available by changing forms to make them more readily available to other plants; provides habitat and improves habitat quality if diversity of forest is increased).

Besides, have you ever wiped your backside with and owl?  They get upset then flap, peck and scratch with their talons.  Very uncomfortable.

  11. we should stop cutting the trees because due this water cycle in that  area gets damaged.this also leads to global warming which leads to meal ting of ice in the poles. it can leads to flood in coastal areas. due to this  the whole ecosystems gets damage& the area gets converted to dester

  12. Well in the USA there are more trees today than 100 years ago. We still have TP to wipe our butts.

Believe it or not. It is funny, here in Maine our forests have been cut 3 times since the arrival of the "white man". The state is still 90% forested.

Every time you cut a large tree down 100's of small ones grow up in the former shadow of the large one. A forest is the natural way of things. even concrete and hot top give way to a forest over time.

  13. No we should manage forests.  Old trees stop growing and use little co2.  Smaller growing trees do a better job of removing co2 from the atmosphere.

  14. What really needs to be done is stop clear cutting in other parts of the world as we have done in the United States. But even here good forest management id badly needed when you look at the massive fires we are having and the number of trees dying from beetle infestations. The USA today has more healthy trees today than it did a hundred years ago because of the program of managing the forest giving each tree enough free space around it to grow healthy and strong like the forests of Europe once were before the environmentalists got crazy about saving every tree and they started dying from overcrowding.

This is now happening in many US forests as underbrush and scrap wood consumes the water and nutrients that trees need to remain healthy. This makes for more and worse fires because of the crowding and scrub starve the trees leaving them more vulnerable to diseases and the spread of fires. Openly spaced trees in a properly manages forest do not burn easily because they get sufficient water and other nutrients. They also can resist disease and bugs for the same reason.

So the problem is not the cutting or harvesting of trees, but how it is done. A major problem is clear cutting in tropical areas for planting sugar cane and small palms harvested for oil or to make ethanol. In the USA we need to start a good program of forest management to eliminate scrub brush and overcrowding that causes wasteful loss of valuable trees as is happening right now in California and other states because of the bans forced by the environmental groups on cutting out excess trees and the brush that chokes and kills forests.

  15. So they can mature, dry out and burn down. Wouldn't we all be much more happy then? One less argument to have with people with no practical knowledge of the forest.

The tree huggers wont be happy until our economy and our forests are destroyed, their hearts might be in the right place but their brains and judgement lag far behind.

Leave forest management to the people who have been managing them for generations and they will be healthy.

It wasn't until the tree huggers got the power to sway public opinion and policy that we started to have all these devastating and sterilizing forest fires. In some of these areas a forest will not grow again in our lifetimes. And THEY claim to love the trees?

  16. We should stop cutting down more trees because leaves and trees put oxygen in the air, which can help the bad situation that we are in at the moment.

  17. You can't really stop cutting down tree, if you make one group of tree cutter stop from cutting down tree, they'll go find another place to cut down tree. Eventually the price of papers and anything that is tree related will sky rocketed. Are you willing to pay a high price for a pack of paper, toilet paper, or wooden furniture?

I say that for every trees the lumber cut down, they should plant one tree for replacement. We also need to grow fiberous plants such as industrial hemp to make papers and other paper related.

  18. there are more trees now than ever!  just look at the huge tree farms and all the natural forest fires that are prevented.  besides, it would only take about 30 years for a forest in brazil to regrow, because of the high amounts of rain.
