  1. Not everyone gets their license at 16 (I couldn't )

medical reason (I have seizures and didn't want to injure anyone else )

  2. stop trying to get us to give you reasons to tell your parents

  3. Well firstly you should always have a Full License driver next to you at all times!!

Reason being you should start at 16 is so you gain enough experience to feel confident to drive by your self when you hit 18!!

  4. You shouldn't drive at that age.............................

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,490 drivers in this age group died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006 and an additional 272,000 were injured.

Drivers age 15- to 20-years old accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes.

Twenty-five percent of teen drivers killed were intoxicated. In 2002 (latest data available) the estimated economic cost of police-reported crashes involving drivers between the ages of 15 and 20 was $40.8 billion, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov ).

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly.

In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.

  5. No one ever said you should. But most 16 year olds want to. It's expensive first of all. My Daughter is 18 and she has a ten year old car. With car payment, insurance, and gasoline, it costs her about $450 a month.

  6. Don't feel like you have to drive.  Lots of kids nowadays are deciding it isn't worth the trouble.

I wish I could find the article about San Francisco kids feeling the same way. In that town there isn't really any upside to owning a car (ZipCar or Hertz cover the occasional need) and it's WAY cheaper.  Cheaper probably to live in SF without a car than Oklahoma with a car.  New York, Chicago, Toronto, most of Europe... lots of cities are that way, even parts of L.A.!  And of course you're in a big city with culture and nightlife and freedom.

And that's not even counting the price of fuel.

  7. so you don't bug your parents

  8. You probably shouldn't drive ,(for lots of reasons) but most people want to

  9. The reason why I think 16 year olds should be able to drive is because their parents aren't going to drive them everywhere. Also, I think a sixteen year old is responsible enough. You may think that your 16 year old is still your little baby, but they are actually almost adults. If you let them drive, they can have a lot of freedom that they can thank you for. Also, they won't bug you anymore at going everywhere.
