  1. Different types of worm are around at different times of the year, so you need to use wormer all year round.  You also use different types of wormer as there is no one "all-purpose" wormer that can kill all types of worm.

Horses pick up worms when they are grazing so another way you can help break the cycle is to cross graze the field with sheep or cattle.  Eg, you have two fields horses in one and sheep in the other, then every few months you swap them over.  Horse worms cannot survive in sheep and vice versa.

Also horses are fussy grazers so having sheep will help crop back the rough areas in your field.

  2. Horses when grazing are constantly reinfesting themselves with parasites so need frequent worming.

  3. Jan to March, worm for redworms.  April to June roundworm and tapeworm. July to Oct roundworm.  November to December roundworm, tapeworm and bots.  You should only worm about about every 13 weeks or so they don't get emune to the wormer.  Different worm eggs in ground etc at different times of year.

  4. Because horses are always carrying at least some parasites internally, and they need to be kept under control or they will cause health problems like colic.

  5. To kill parasites that are only sensitive to dewormers at certain stages of their development and to help prevent drug resistance.

  6. because it tickles him
