  1. I lived in a borough where recycling wasn't mandatory. We threw EVERYTHING in plastic trash bags. On Mon. & Thur., they were put out to the curb for pick-up.

    "Out of sight - out of mind!"

    One day my youngest brother came home from college and saw what I was doing. He WENT TOTALLY ballistic!!

    "What the &*^&%$ are YOU doing?? Don't you know you're killing the environment?" He went on - ranting and raving for about 5 minutes.

    He took the "trash" to the garage and sorted through it. He separated everything from each bag and each other:

    Plastic bags with plastic bags,

    Different colored glass separated into like-colored glass;

    Cardboard and paper in another pile;

    The leftover food was put in a remote corner of the back yard for the animals and to start a composting pile. After about 3 weeks, it was GREAT for finding nightcrawlers and worms to go fishing!

    Those 3 bags of "trash" were reduced to less than 1/2 bag. THE ONLY items which were put to the curb in that 1/2 plastic bag were plastic 2 liter soda bottles, metal tops and cans.

    AND THE ONLY reason why that happened was because - and there still is - no place to dispose of those items at any recycling center or igloo.

    I continue recycling to this day.

    There's PLENTY of room for everyone to recycle! Hopefully, many other "green-conscious folks" will get on board the recycling yacht, keeping America and the world a much safer, less-polluted, health-conscious planet! Recycling reduces the amount of throw-away "stuff" which clogs the landfills.

    How will recycling affect the future? I think it will have a tremendous impact for the general health and safety. BUT just think of the consequences of NOT recycling! Do I have to elaborate?

    Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!

  2. young people should care because this is there future. people should care because this is the place they live in and if they dont it could bring some bad consequences like new illnesses!

    Bottom line eveybody should care because they can make a difference and help live in a better place, breath a better air and live longer, healthier and happier!

  3. You are the future generation of this earth.  If you the "young people, (or any age)" don't care you will have no earth to reside on for your future.

    Don't let history repeat itself.  All great civilizations, destroyed them selves from within.

    Having studied medicine & Clinical Psychiatry for twelve year during the period of 1955 to 1967 in Tokyo, Japan the Japanese already had their people educated to the idea of recycling.

    They went to all the Air Force Bases located in Japan, and to all the Universities, asking for the tin cans, soda bottles, plastic containers, used/unused metal to recycle.  I can't tell your to this day how many things I see all over the world made with recycled products from Japan.

    Recycling was a way of life for Japan.  When the American bombed, and dropped the Atomic Bomb on two cities to force Japan to surrender, they just about rebuilt all of the cities that were destroyed with recycle items.  (While America and many more other countires were wasting all of their natural resources).

  4. We live on this earth and it IS our job to take care of it. The animals and insects are not going to take care of it for us since they already do what we cannot.

    Recycling  will help us to prevent waste buildup in wastelands and a very good result is cleaner air!

  5. They should care about it because all the trash you throw on the floor usually goes in the ocean. It also affects the future because it will be messy and our animals might die.

  6. We should all care about recycling because we are using up the planet's resources at an alarming rate, especially in the United States. Our per capita consumption of resources is the highest in the world.

    Recycling something keeps it out of the landfill, where space is at a premium. Also, the use of recycled materials slows the consumption rate of raw materials and energy used to produce new materials.

    Our grandparents and great-grandparents didn't live in a throw-away society the way we do. They used things up and wore them out.

    I recommend the book "Waste and Want - a Social History of Trash" by Susan Strasser. It will change the way you look at trash, that's for sure! Good luck with the essay!

  7. Recycling can help reduce the amount of waste we use. This will help to ensure that we have plenty materials  to use. The  earth will be cleaner as we continue through the future.
