  1. The newsprint will probably clog it up maybe?

  2. You must have a low grade shredder.

  3. I have a shredder but it doesn't say anything about newspapers!  I agree with Joan though - it is probably the newsprint which could cause problems.  No point in shredding newspaper though as we just put it in our 'paper sack' for the council to collect!

  4. Never seen that before! and I've owned a few shredders (computer diskettes are no good in them I can tell you that for free).

It might be because computer printed material can be recycled for a different grade of paper than newsprint, which is usually collected separately. This has to do with how easiy the ink can be removed from them.I can't see how it could harm the shredder.

Anyway the point of shredding is

    * make garden mulch, in which case do the newspapers too

    * chop private and personal papers so others cannot read them, which does not apply to newspapers

Bundle your papers together, tie them with string, and find a paper collection depot near you to take them to.

Keep the shredder for old love letters,  embarrassing demands of payment and anything with your bank account numbers on..

  5. Because the shredded parts can be used to make a ransom note by kidnappers .
