Why shouldn't you wonder in Central Park (New York) after dark?

i keep hearing that you shouldn't go there after dark and always wondered why people say that

Muggers and rapists have been known to find their targets in Central Park.  Parts of the park are also used as places to find drugs or a sexual partner late at night, and you might not want to get mixed up in that.

During the day, and in the evening in well-lighted and populated areas, it's perfectly fine.

NYC is home to millions of people-- and yes, most of them are law abiding citizens and not criminals. But still there are there thousands of sick freaks out there. Rapists, robbers, and potentially even murderes are out there waiting for the right chance. Where do you think they look for victims-- on crowded streets with people all around or in empty areas more protected and isolated? The easiest way to to become a target is to go into an isolated area alone at night. Its alot thougher to hear peoples screams in the wooded areas of central park then on a crowded street.

During the night like Central Park, Inwood Hill Park, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, it's not safe to walk through in dark.

There are kidnappers, robbers, and others.

It's best to cut across the park by buses.

Reading your question literally, one may always wonder (sic) in Central Park.  However, after dark it is more dangerous, because bad guys may be hanging out there, and you may not see them as you are lost in your wonderment.
