  1. You don't have rights in public school, so the first ammendment doesn't apply.

  2. Hummmm...

    Check THIS out!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt-NNwZdr...

    Speaks for its self.

    I am glad I homeschool!

  3. Public schools SHOULD have uniforms.

Keeps school about education and not about a fashion show.

Keeps kids from picking on those who don't have the coolest clothes.

Makes life easier on parents since they don't have to do school shopping.

Much cheaper then spending tons of money on tons of clothes.

Keeps kids from wearing inappropriate clothing so others can keep their minds on their schoolwork and not Sally's cleavage and Johnny's underwear.

  4. They should have uniforms.

It keeps the girls from wearing sl-tty bare-midriffs.  It keeps the boys from wearing baggy gang apparel.

  5. cuz uniforms are dumb

  6. Exactly how does a uniform take away your first amendment rights?

    "Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. "

Did Congress make a law about school uniforms? NO, so it has nothing to do with the first amendment.

Even if I give you that point (which I really can't because the whole point of the 1st amendment is to tell you what congress cannot do), does wearing a uniform affect your ability to exercise your religion? No, not usually.

Does it keep you from speaking? No - and don't give me this "I express myself through my clothing" c**p. That isn't protected, just your ability to speak.

Does a uniform stop you from publishing your opinion in a paper? No

How about your right to assemble (gather)? Does a uniform stop that? No

And it certainly doesn't limit your right to petition the us government.

If you don't want to wear a uniform then come up with a reasonable arguement, present it to the school board and then cross your fingers, because ultimately it is the school's business to make whatever rules they see fit. Now pay more attention in Civics.

  7. As far as I know, public school kids here do wear school uniforms. I don't think the government allows any public school here to insist the students wear its uniform though; but I think 99.9% of kids do choose to wear school uniform (or their own version of it) just because it's easier.

I was talking to our neighbours' new Govie the other day and she was laughing that, in her country (France), there is no official school uniform but kids there still all go to school dressed identically in jeans and T shirts so really France does have a National school uniform: jeans and a T shirt!

PS what does this have to do with homeschooling? Wouldn't it be more likely to generate more informed responses if it was posted on the "primary and high school" board...y'know amongst people who actually go to school!
