  1. Because the care will be horrible. You think it will be free but it won't. You will have a ton taken out of your check for poor healthcare. You also may not know that the care will be rationed and managed. If you have a premature baby, the baby will die because there won't be the ulta efforts to save it because it will cost too much. If Grandma has a heart attack, she may be too old for any treatment. If you want healthcare and smoke, drink or are overweight, you may find that you don't get any although you will pay for it. It's a really bad way to go. If you need surgery, you will be put on a list and likely die while waiting on that list.

  2. you guys in the US have been completely and throughly brainwashed by big profit healthcare.  All someone has to do is say "socialism" and you run away from what is in fact a very key part of a governments responsibility in a DEVELOPED country, namely, ensuring the wellbeing of ALL the population in general and not just the elitists who can afford the insurance

Babies dying because of universal healthcare!!  Sure thats why canada  has a much lower infant mortality rate and longer life expectancy than the US?  Dont believe check out the CIA world factbook.  Dont listen to the profiteers look at the facts .

Lower drug costs and NO ONE without coverage.   As well, no one here has since 1965, nor should they, go bankrupt because of unpredicted and unforeseen health problems.  No one gets denied coverage due to "pre-existing conditions".

Pa having to sell the family farm to pay for Mary's operation is so 19th century guys.

All I can say is.. every developed country in the world has come to that realization and, save one,  has some type of universal coverage.

  3. It would mean more money out of our pockets and it would probably slow the advancement of healthcare technology.

  4. Simple because I don't want it!! In a free country why should I be forced into something I don't want?? Are we not all ready forced to do enough stuff that we don't want?

  5. Because prevention is much cheaper then actually being sick.

A country like Germany, where the average lifespan is 8 years higher then here, the cost per person is $1800 for healthcare to $7000 in the USA per year.

Ah - give me ignorance not knowledge!

  6. Because it is not the responsibility of the federal government to provide health care. How much more of your income do you want to give away in taxes anyway?

  7. Mainly because health care is not a job of the government.

  8. Since I assume you're about 9 years old, I'll answer the question. I would not expect such ignorance from an adult.

We do already have universal medical care. If you're too poor to afford medical insurance or to pay your bills for medical treatment, you receive Medicaid. Medicaid will absolutely pay for all necessary medical care.

  9. I'm sure the brainiacs will come up with some reasons, but I think in a perfect world, it would sure be nice. I'm between jobs right now, and I don't have any insurance, so I probably won't go to the doctor until it's too late..

  10. Holy Cow! Listen to these people?

The real reason we don't have universal health care is that it would affect the profits of the handful of huge corporations that control health care in America, the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries.

On a basic level, capitalism in the US has become corrupted.  We were all taught that capitalism is the best system because the profit motive brings prosperity and raises everyone's standard of living.  But we have come to think of profits not as a means to an end but the end in itself.

So the highest priority in our health care system is profits, as opposed to all the other developed countries where the highest priority is health care itself and profits are only a means to achieve that goal.

Conservatives claim that our health care system is the best in the world.  What they mean is that it creates the highest PROFITS of any health care system in the world.  But every other developed nation gets as good or better care for half or less money because it isn't left to corporations to run the entire industry simply to maximize profits.

But you listen to the other posters here, see how they are brainwashed.  Conservatives do this by demonizing the poor--if we have universal healthcare, the poor will get something for nothing!  8^O  They demonize the poor and weak and unhealthy while it's the rich that are stealing us blind.

Americans say in polls again and again that what they want is a 'Canadian style' single-payer plan.  In fact Medicare is such a plan; it provides the same level of care, and the same or higher level of customer satisfaction, for a much lower cost.  In fact if we only expanded Medicare to cover everyone in the country we would save hundreds of billions of dollars a year in the US.

But every actual plan for universal health care, proposed by either party, instead preserves and perpetuates the current corporate power structure.  GHW Bush's plan,  Bill Clinton's plan, Hillary's current plan and Obama's plan all have that in common--they all involve the govt. buying health insurance for -some- uninsured from the existing corporations at their going rates, guaranteeing that they will cost much more money, and strengthening the existing corporate power structure even more.

  11. If you look at the other countries that have universal health care there are still people paying for insurance. that tells me that what you are getting for free really doesn't help anyone out. also, it will raise taxes all across the board. the money is going to have from somewhere and the government isn't going to have it come out of their pockets.

  12. I find this amazing. People are perfectly happy to spend $7,000,000,000,000 to kill people they've never met and have no interest in, but the thought of kicking in to save friends and neighbors, creates an uproar. I guess that explains our being in 40th place in health care. Solid 40th place. I guess you have to pay your thousands in health insurance, and then be denied care. Don't forget to vote for McGoo.

  13. Because I do not want to pay for your health care. Why should you be allowed to pick my pocket to supplement what is your own personal responsibility?

No one denies there are some problems with our health care and insurance system, but there are reasonable things we can do to make it better for all. However, the solution is not to put everything in the hands of government. Government has proved time and again that they do not fix things, they only make them worse.

  14. Free health care for every one SOUNDS like a good idea, but it isn't.  When everyone has universal health care, you basically have to be on a waiting list for your problem (usually for months at a time) no matter how badly you need treatment.  Universal health care is very bad idea!

  15. Lack of competition between medical companies, decreased competition in general in a business assured of getting money.

Lack of competition means they can charge what they want.

Government will have to step in and put limits.

Sounds like what is happening in Hugo Chavez's country right now.

    That's socialism.

    Bad idea.

Helps to think beyond your present pocketbook to realize that your still eating the cost.

Second of all, we don't owe you.  Forced charity is NOT charity.  It's robbery.

  16. when the government gets involved in something it always becomes less efficient, more complicated, and more expensive. in america, vet offices have more mri's to treat animals then the whole country of canada has for people.  people seem to forget that in america our federal government is heavily involved in medicine, it has been since the 70s and ever since health care has been a major political issue.  since it has gotten worse, the politicians propose more government programs to solve the issue unfortunately, its those programs that caused the problem in the first place.  not to mention i dont think the federal government has a right to take my hard earned money and spend it on someone elses medical care. or anything for that matter.  plus there is no authority for the this in the constitution.

  17. Because the government has proven for the past 332 years that it is incapable of competing with private businesses in open market capitalism. Simply put, this means it will cost you more to get health care if the government provides it than it currently does with private businesses competing for your business.
