Why skin gets dark in cold temperature?

Why is it my skin gets dark in cold temperature specially on my face? And how can i prevent that from happening?

When its cold you blood vessels contract or get smaller to remain at a warm temperature. Because of the color of you skin comes from the projection of your blood inside it, your skin becomes darker and bluer when there is less blood seen (just like when its hot your skin turns redder because you vessels expand)
