The price of our fuel is getting ridiculous apart from being possibly the highest in Europe and our duty also the highest thanks to Gordon brown does anyone know why diesel is up to 14 pence a litre more than unleaded when it was always cheaper and im sure it still is abroad. is this down to us being ripped off again as diesel needs less refineing than petrol please let me know if any one can answer

  1. Diesel cost more than regular unleaded int he US. Diesel probably cost more because of how it is refined and less of it is used and sold than regular unleaded. Bottom line is that gas and diesel prices are going up because many believe we're rapidly running out of oil. Look at a really busy street and imagine that same street in hundreds or even thousands of cities and towns around the world. Now imagine that everyday of every year. All of those cars and trucks need gas and diesel everyday. How much more of oil is still in the ground?  Some say we've used half of the oil that is in the ground. If we've used half already and we have billions of cars and trucks on the road then in 20 years we run out of oil. We use oil like crazy. At some point we run out of oil.

  2. I think that fuel prices have gone up because we are running out of it.

  3. in the US, diesel is significantly more than any gasoline.

still cheaper than in the UK, but rather shocking for us spoiled americans,  many of whom apparently think that the world owes us cheap gasoline.

i don't like paying for stuff any more than you do, but you might remember that most of your cars get better gas mileage than ours, so you probably pay less to fill your tank than some idiot here with an SUV.

  4. The more they propagate Global Warming the higher it will go. It scares Gore that he will not have enough fuel for his jet plane.

  5. Diesel is now the same price or higher than gas in North America also.  And it has been for a long time.  It is because of more demand, both by trucks, diesel cars, and the third world.  Get used to it.  This is how it will always be from now on, the third world will not be spending it's days in the dark any more.

  6. The new Diesel emissions standards in the US have dirven up the price.

  7. Deisel requires lower sulpher oils,

these have been preferntially extracted as they require less refining cost and tended to be easiest to get at and are running out first.

and there has been no investmetn in refineries to use the lower quality crude we are left with.

So less diesel = higher price & more specultaion etc.

diesel was highest in UK in 2005, but for latest figures many countriesare of similar price http://www.theaa.com/onlinenews/allabout...

Diesel particulates also kill 12-24,000 each year in UK  (defra study 10 years ago http://www.ace.mmu.ac.uk/Newsletter/0398... hence the extra tax to cover health costs
