  1. I TOTALLY agree with you!!!!!!!!! There are people other than celebs that are going to other countries to adopt and I dont understand why. Give the kids here homes!!!!

  2. Why does everyone seem to think there is a surplus of infants in the US who are waiting to be adopted?  There isn't.  The number of prospective adoptive couples far outnumbers the babies that are available for adoption. That is why it can take so long to wait to adopt a baby, and it's why so many couples (celebrities and otherwise) choose to adopt babies from foreign countries.

In the case of Angelina Jolie, she apparently met and fell in love with her son Maddox when visiting an orphanage in Cambodia.  Because of her experience with him, and her work as a UN Ambassador, she decided to adopt other needy infants from other countries, which has given a lot of attention to the many countries who have orphanages that are overflowing with unwanted children.

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest, Burt Reynolds, Marie Osmond, Calista Flockhart, Diane Keaton, Kirk Cameron, Mia Farrow, and Sharon Stone are among the many celebrities who have adopted children from the US.

  3. i dont know

  4. I don't think it matters where they adopt from. When someone adopts a kid it doesn't matter where they come from as long as they are put in a good loving home. It is an individual choice on where a person wants to adopt from, and no one has the right to tell anyone that they have to adopt from one country over another. The only thing that matters is a child that needs a home is given one.

  5. Many celebrities do adopt in the US, but they don't make a splash about it.

Some adopt outside of the country because they legally cannot adopt here.  For instance, Angelina Jolie is a known heroin user.  $$$ talks in other countries. I'm sure she greased plenty of palms so that they could look past that blot.  Most others would be turned down.  She is a negative example.

Most who adopt outside the country do so because they want infants and there aren't enough white infants available to adopt or because they don't fit the hoops required to adopt domestically. Some, like my Mom's coworker, adopted a child from her original home country.  Many in the hispanic community are adopting children from their home countries rather than domestically (hispanic families tend to support their unmarried women to keep their children).

  6. Jennifer L. Is right.  There are more celebrities who have adopted domestically than internationally.  It is just that celebrities who adopt domestically don't get the attention that celebrities who adopt internationally get.

I'm so glad you are concerned about the welfare of children in need of homes here.  So, how many have you/are you fostering or adopting?

  7. Not just a shortage of infants in this country.....a shortage of children (under 12, I concider teenagers to be not quite children but young adults). They have the extra money to spend so why not resuce a child that would not have a home otherwise. If I had the money I would have loved to adopt internationally....someday. Anyway, I can name more celebs that have adopted domestically than internationally.

  8. I think probably do bother with the USA, but its a tabloid thing. The adoptees from other countries are the focus of the media as far as celebs are concerned. Everything a celeb does is highlighted even more in the media, so I wouldnt worry or take seriously what celebs do.

  9. For those of you knocking us parents who have adopted overseas, how many US kids have YOU adopted??  Get off your high horse and adopt kids in the US if you are so concerned about them, especially the older kids with severe special needs.

I wanted a child to love and raise.  Period.  As a single woman, my best option was going overseas.  The process is more predictable than the US system.  It would not have been easy to adopt an infant/toddler here in the US.

All children deserve a safe loving home.

  10. Lots of celebrities DO adopt in the US.  It just doesn't get the attention that international adoption does right now.  Lots of famous people also adopted internationally before Angelina Jolie, too, it just wasn't front page news.

Whether someone chooses to adopt in their own country or abroad, it's important to remember that EVERY child deserves a safe, loving and secure home.

  11. Everyone from america that isnt a celebrity adopts from america, limiting the amount of newborns up for adoption. Its much easier to just go abroad.

  12. I never go by what I hear on the news.  They only report what they think will sell papers.  Madona adopts one, Angelina adoptes 2 or 3, all from overseas.  Wonderful and great for them.   It's gets reported and gets all kinds of press.

Marie Osmond adopts 4-5 from the US.  I adopt one from overseas and one from north America and the press doesn't care.  I guess Marie isn't kool and I can't sell papers either.

  13. Why do you care. Does it really matter? Are their good intentions less valid because they didnt adopt here? Is adopting 1 child not good enough either? Should they adopt every single one in the united states? Will that make you happy? Are you adopting children from the US?  Did you donate money to your church at all this year? WHY DIDNT YOU GIVE MORE? Couldnt you have given EVERYTHING you had? Why do you need your car? You could just walk! Did you donate blood this year? Why not every month?  And why didnt you dontate your bone marrow and a kidney? People need those things too!

Dont be so crass and judgemental.

People do what is right for their family. And if adopting a 10 year old with special needs isnt somthing you have the capability to do NO ONE BENIFITS not you, and certainly not the child.

My whole point is that people do what they are capable of doing. It WOULD be great if every child had a home I dont disagree in anyway about that, but if adopting an younger child, or not wanting to deal with the heartbreak of a BM taking back her child then people shouldnt be put down for that! Adoption of any kind is a great thing for everyone involved both the famliy and a child, and one type of adoption is no less valid or good than another. An older child, or special needs child, or even a baby or a foreign child is not a perfect match for every family and there is nothing wrong with creating a perfect match for both child and family.

Not being Mother Teresa, doesnt make you evil, so stop trying to spin things that way. I support ALL adoption.

  14. In some cases, it is because "even" if a child is in foster care here in the U.S., it is assumed that at the least they are being fed and housed.  In Thirld World countries, there are children whose lives will in some cases literally be saved if they are adopted.  Don't get me wrong, I am a strong and tireless advocate for domestic adoption, ESPECIALLY from the foster care system.  But compassion knows no borders.
