why do british (or maybe english, i'm not sure who is actually the perpetrator of this activity) so often correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, attitude, etc. of people asking questions on yahoo? i've visited other english speaking yahoo sites and have noticed this phenomenon much more frequently on uk/ireland site than any other english speaking site. is it done to educate? is it done condescendingly? the habit is so pronounced on this site that i think it is a cultural norm and i am curious as to the cause.

  1. Because we are a pedantic bunch, who love to correct others.

We do it condescendingly, as we know we are the only country what speak it proper, ( lol )

  2. it gives these sados a sense of well being and smugness.....best to ignore the wankers

  3. I must admit to doing it occasionally. More so with the lack of punctuation. Yahoo provides spell check for people answering or asking questions. Why do people ignore that.

Often people will write a very long question with no punctuation in it. Is this bad grammar or is it just laziness.

I don't do it every time, but I do occasionally. Personally I take pride in what I write on here. I'm not perfect by a long way, but I do try.

I never use abusive language either to stress a point!

Edit;  Picasso-ish.....I live in the city where Picasso was born.

  4. Its probably because we Brits 'think' we know how to use the language better than other English speaking countries.

What I find strange is that out of all the rude, ill mannered, crude, and downright disgusting things that are posted on Yahoo you find comments about bad grammar offensive
